Boudots is the last vineyard before Vosne Romanee and it shows in the dark smoky fruits and cassis. There is still p,.enty of elegant, classical structure and excellent tension. RKL "The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Boudots 1er Cru has a fragrant bouquet of perfumed red berry fruit mixed with rose petals. The medium-bodied palate delivers supple tannin and a fine bead of acidity. Well balanced, with a judicious dash of white pepper and clove toward the finish. A lovely Boudots. 91-93 points" Neal Martin, Vinous.com Close

La Dominode has an eastern exposure and lies at the southern end of the commune on gravel soils that produce elegant wine. Fermented in vats and matured in oak barrels for 12 to 15 months before bottling. Dark fruited and weighty, with mineral and limestone tannins, quite compact and austere at present, suggsting longevity and great potential. RKL "The 2018 Savigny-lès-Beaune La Dominode 1er Cru has a clean, precise bouquet that is showing a touch of reduction at the moment, but you can still feel the energy contained within this Savigny. The lightly spiced palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, a chalky texture and a quite persistent finish. Excellent. 90-92 points" Neal Martin, Vinous.com Close

Intense and dark fruited. Tasted the 1996 vintage last night at dinner at the Couvent des Jacobin, still full and fruit and energy. Dark cherry, powerful tannins. Very good indeed. RKL "The 2018 Savigny-lès-Beaune Vergelesses 1er Cru has a forward, opulent bouquet of red cherries, cranberry and light orange peel aromas that burst from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied and demonstrates a little more new oak at the moment, but that will be subsumed. Finishes with ample, spicy red fruit that lingers nicely for 30 seconds plus. 90-92 points" Neal Martin, Vinous.com Close

From the 1.3ha Clos de la Barre. Dark fruits, smoky, intense on the nose, dense and concentrated, lovely. RKL "The 2018 Volnay Clos de la Barre 1er Cru has a precise, focused bouquet of well-defined black and red fruit mixed with cedar and light minty aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, quite rounded and smooth in texture. Good depth toward the finish, but I was expecting a little more complexity and mineralité. 90-92 points" Neal Martin, Vinous.com "Another success is the 2018 Volnay 1er Cru Clos de la Barre Monopole (Maison Louis Jadot), offering up aromas of cassis, red plums, baking chocolate and earthy forest floor. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, with good concentration, lively acids and chalky tannins. 90-92+ points" William Kelley, RobertParker.com Close

Very seductive Volnay with a winning combination of plush dark fruits, minerality and great concentration on mid-palate, with a beautiful silky texture on the palate and mineral length on the finish. RKL "The 2018 Volnay Les Mitans 1er Cru has a pure, opulent bouquet that manages to retain impressive focus and precision. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity, plenty of crushed strawberry and cranberry fruit and a touch of piquancy toward the finish. This stands shoulder to shoulder with the Les Santenots at the moment and may surpass it. 92-94 points" Neal Martin, Vinous.com Close

Volnay is one of the earliest to harvest, with no wind from the combes to contend with, unlike Pommard. Ripening earlier has helped in retaining freshness here. The Volnays all have as beautiful combination of dark fruits with freshness and texture. RKL "The 2018 Volnay Les Santenots 1er Cru has a clean, precise, oyster-shell-tinged bouquet that unfurls nicely in the glass. The lightly spiced palate is medium-bodied with sappy red berry fruit, fine acidity and a gentle, caressing finish. Quite persistent in the mouth. A well-crafted Santenots. 91-93 points" Neal Martin, Vinous.com Close

Superb depth and concentration. Les Suchots is a candidate for elevantion to Grand Cru. Rich fruits plus the refined style of Les Charmes. RKL "The 2018 Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots 1er Cru has a generous, ebullient bouquet of dark cherries, violets and iodine aromas that possess real intensity. The palate is well balanced with a creamy texture, the red cherries and strawberry infused with vanilla and orange pith notes, leading to a sweet, candied finish that is very seductive. I wonder how long-term this will be. 91-93 points" Neal Martin, Vinous.com "Aromas of raspberries, berries, spices and creamy new oak introduce the 2018 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots (Maison Louis Jadot), a medium to full-bodied, broad and supple wine that's fleshy but nicely defined, concluding with a lively finish. This, too, should offer a broad drinking window. 91-93 points" William Kelley, RobertParker.com Close

"Cask sample. Savoury and sweet, dark cherry with a lovely sweetness of fruit. Leather and spice and such power that is carried really effortlessly. A very very long finish – spice laden with dark fruit – incredibly long. 18 points." Alistair Cooper MW, Jancisrobinson.com Jan 2020 "The 2018 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru has a perfumed, floral bouquet of wild strawberry, wilted rose petal, juniper and orange blossom aromas that gently unfold in the glass. The palate has a fleshy texture on the opening and finely judged acidity. Candied red fruit intermixes with marmalade and a drop of honey toward the finish. A seductive Chapelle Chambertin, although I feel the Latricières-Chambertin is imbued with greater nobility. 2023 - 2045. 92-94 points." Neal Martin, Vinous.com Jan 2020 Close

"The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Prieur 1er Cru comes across as one of the most austere at this point in time; it may be entering a sultry stage of its élevage. The palate is medium-bodied with quite chalky tannins. An angular Clos Prieur with a slight attenuation toward the pointed finish. I would like to see a little more flesh develop here. 2022 - 2036. 89-91 points." Neal Martin, Vinous.com Jan 2020 Close

"Cask sample. Such freshness here with lively cranberry and spice. A lithe palate that has a leather, earthy edge and is supported by a zesty driven acidity. Long and focused and very well put together. 17.5 points." Alistair Cooper MW, Jancisrobinson.com Jan 2020 "The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Petite Chapelle 1er Cru has an expressive, seductive bouquet of ample red cherries, crushed strawberry and rose petal notes; menthol aromas emerge with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, and quite saline and spicy, especially toward the finish, which exerts a gentle grip. Great potential here. 2023 - 2040. 91-93 points." From 60 years old vines. Precise red fruits, fresh and with mineral intensity on palate. Impression of elegance and energy rather than concentration, but the fruit is more accessible than in any year I can recall tasting here. Great development and very good length on the finish for a village wine. RKL "The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes comes from vines averaging 60 years of age, within nine parcels that are representative of the appellation. It has a lovely bouquet of undergrowth scents percolating through red berry fruit that is slightly darker than the Bourgogne Rouge, the 50% whole cluster nicely integrated. The lightly spiced palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity and an elegant finish that exerts gentle grip. Give it two or three years in bottle. 89-91 points" Neal Martin, Vinous.com Close

Concentrated beef stock, mulberry, bilberry and some blueberry fruit aromas on the nose. Richly textured at the front of the palate, with amazingly fine tannins and a long, linear 'pheasant's tail' finish. RKL "The 2018 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru, matured in 40–50% new oak, offers pretty dark cherry, wild strawberry and undergrowth scents on the nose; a light marine scent emerges with time in the glass, along with a touch of licorice. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, well-judged acidity and good density, and it maintains a sense of control all the way through. Quite linear on the finish but displays lovely sapidity on the aftertaste. Excellent. 2022 - 2045. 93-95 points." Neal Martin, Vinous.com Jan 2020 Close

75% new oak (medium toast). Smoke, brambles, game meats and earth all jumping out of the glass on the nose! I asked re the char level because of that intense smoke aroma but am assured it is from the terroir. Tortochot's 21.33 ares (approx 0.2 ha) holding here comprises just seven rows of vines, on the lower slopes of the Clos. Traditionally thought of as inferior to the higher parts, the warming climate means ripeness levels are increasing and the location is becoming a positive advantage. Pleasingly approachable for Clos Vougeot, ripe black fruits, spice and with earth, coffee and mineral notes adding complexity. Mid-weight for this grand cru but suspect it will flesh out with age, drinking from 2027. RKL Close

Fermented in stainless steel. No new oak used in the elevage, all 1st year barrels. Mid-intensity colour, aromas of cherry, kirsch, violets, raspberry and earth. Much more expressive on the nose than in previous vintages (save perhaps for 2017). Succulent fruit which fans out on the mid-palate, backed up by fresh acidity and structured tannins.
