Dark and opaque core but with bright ruby rim. Explosive aromas of black fruits of every description on the nose...blackberry, black cherry and brambles show themselves in layer after layer. There also savoury notes of olive and some spices. Despite the intensity it is fresh on the nose and palate, with a wonderful silky texture to it. RKL Close

"Moving to the Chateauneuf du Pape releases and a blend of 70% Grenache and 30% Mourvèdre, the classic 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape is a winner that’s well worth a case purchase, and it offers a ripe, powerful style that stays perfectly balanced and even elegant. Lots of black raspberries, toasted spices, dried garrigue, lavender, and licorice notes all emerge from the glass and this Provençal, full-bodied barrel sample will offer pleasure right out of the gate yet evolve for 15 years or more. 92-94 points." "Looking at the flagship 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape from this benchmark estate, it reveals a denser ruby/purple color as well as stunning notes of smoked red and black fruits, crushed rocks, peppery garrigue, and truffly earth. Hitting the palate with full-bodied richness, it stays tight and compact on the palate, with terrific mid-palate depth, a focused, structured mouthfeel, and one great finish. This is a brilliant Châteauneuf du Pape from the Brunier family that’s going to benefit from upwards of 5-7 years of bottle age and have 30+ years of overall longevity. 96-98 points." "Highly perfumed aromas of fresh cherry and dark berries, candied flowers, exotic spices and incense. Juicy and seamless in texture, offering bitter cherry, black raspberry and spicecake flavors that show fine definition and become sweeter as the wine opens up. Finishes on a resonating floral note, displaying formidable tenacity, intertwined tannins and strongly persistent spiciness. This might turn out to be the best version of this bottling I have ever experienced. 93-95 points." Josh Raynolds, Vinous.com Close

"Spice-accented blueberry, cherry and a hint of cracked pepper on the highly fragrant nose. Appealingly sweet and energetic in style, showing very good depth and sharp detail to the juicy, spice-tinged black/blue fruit flavors. Shows a building floral quality and energetic lift on the subtly tannic finish, which leaves behind a spicy suggestion of white pepper. 91-93 points." Josh Raynolds, Vinous.com Close

"A complex bouquet evokes ripe blackberry, cherry compote, licorice and violet, energized by a spicy cracked pepper nuance. Broad and fleshy in the mouth, offering densely packed, smoke-tinged black/blue fruit, exotic spice and floral pastille flavors that pick up a minerally nuance as the wine opens up. Shows superb delineation and spicy lift on a long, silky finish framed by steadily building tannins. There were five demi-muids of this wine in 2019, all of them new. 94-96 points." Josh Raynolds, Vinous.com "Glass-staining purple colour. Incredibly powerful with Glass-staining purple colour. Incredibly powerful with searching perfume, leaf tea and glove leather behind the intense black fruits. Very fine and deep, perhaps just a touch too high in alcohol, a little overextracted. Phenomenal concentration and length however. A growling, brooding power, this could only be Hermitage. From vines of nearly 50 years of age grown organically on lieux-dits Beaumes and Péléat, matured in demi-muids with malolactic fermentation in barrel. Drinking Window 2027 - 2043. 96 points."
