2007 VINTAGE PORT offered en primeur

2007 is the first general Vintage Port declaration since 2003 and potentially the finest vintage for 13 years. Click VIEW THE WINES for details.

After four dry, hot years 2007 started with a wet winter and then continued with a cool and wet spring and early summer. Unlike the four previous years there was no significant heat wave but a hot September ensured perfect ripeness of the grapes at vintage.

The 2007 growing season provided the perfect balance of water and heat exposure producing wines that can be characterised by their freshness and purity. They have the requisite power and depth for long ageing but their perfect balance and finesse mean that, unusually, they are delightfully approachable young. 2007 is a port vintage of the highest quality and is being rated as the finest since 1994.

"...the 2007 ports are distinguished by virtue of their finesse and purity. These are no powerful, impenetrable ports like the 2003s, they do not have the structure of the 2000s, both of which I tasted alongside. No, the 2007s have an unerring sensuality to them, silky and seamless, ports that I am reluctant to say will be approachable when young. If you like hedonistic young port then feel free to drink them over the next five or six years to revel in their sweet nubile fruit. Me? I would prefer to cellar them for at least twenty years and seek out the nuances and subtleties that only time can sculpt."

"Great Vintage Port was made in 2007. I love the combination of power and finesse in these young blackstrap fortified wines É What strikes me is how polished the tannins are. I have been tasting young Ports since the 1980 vintage, and I can't ever remember such fine yet dense and rich tannins. The top 2007 Ports will certainly age incredibly well. And although they are very balanced and beautiful, it would be a waste to drink them with only 10 or 15 years of bottle age."
James Suckling, winespectator.com

Unfortunately the wet weather meant that whilst quality was high, yields were severely restricted and so naturally allocations much reduced. As 2007 Port is now the obvious choice for those looking to lay down wine for the long term from this particular year, we would expect to sell out very quickly and would urge customers to place their orders sooner rather than later.

We are offering 2007 Port in bond, London City Bond, with arrival expected by approximately Spring 2010. The minimum order is one dozen bottles and we would ask for payment on receipt of invoice. Delivery, duty & VAT charged at prevailing rates at time of clearance from bond.
