2019 Enclos Tourmaline: £320 IB per three bottlesWednesday, June 24
Owned by Peter Kwok, along with Tour St.-Christophe, Haut-Brisson and, most recently, Bellefont-Belcier, all four are benefiting from his investment and relentless pursuit of quality.
Enclos Tourmaline is made only in the best vintages, the fruit sourced from a single hectare of vines situated in-between Le Pin and Fleur Petrus. A pure Merlot, the wine sees 100% new oak. Only around 3000 bottles are made each year, hence the wine is offered in cases of three.
Extraordinarily, the 2019Tour Saint-Christophe is awarded 96-97 points by James Suckling, equalling his score for Enclos Tourmaline. This points to the brilliant value offered by this St.-Emilion estate...as well as to the limitations of scoring systems!
2019 Enclos Tourmaline, Pomerol
"The 2019 Enclos Tourmaline is pure Merlot picked on 3 October at 32hl/ha and limited to just 3,400 bottles. It has a very ripe bouquet with blueberry and cassis fruit, maybe just a little OTT compared to some of Vignobles K (aka proprietor Peter Kwok) other cuvées. The palate is more refined with finely chiseled tannins, a fine bead of acidity, quite linear and steely towards the finish with a tang of spice on the aftertaste. Once the aromatics are tempered by time, this could turn into a superb Pomerol. 94-96 points." Neal Martin, Vinous.com
"A dense, very minerally red with iron, dark berries and black olives. Full-bodied and agile. It’s very structured, though not heavy. Opulent, yet reserved. 96-97 points." James Suckling
