2019 Château Les Ormes de PezWednesday, June 10
Ormes de Pez has in the past taken reflected glory from Lynch (Haut-Batailley is stealing some of that now). We mustn't forget what a great, all-round wine this is in its own right. A Cru Bourgeois but with real terroir and the benefit of Cazes investment and know-how, this is a great, affordable expression of classic St.-Estephe structure, made in a traditional style. Sometimes rustic when compared with Lynch (an unfair comparison, but we often taste them side-by-side) the 2019 has the very refined tannins associated with the vintage.
Offered En Primeur, landing Spring 2022.
2019 Château Les Ormes de Pez, Cru Bourgeois St.-Estephe
"Plenty of spice and plums on the nose. Full body, round tannins and flavorful finish. Raspberries and hazelnuts at the end. 92-93 points." James Suckling
"The 2019 Ormes de Pez has an intense bouquet of blackberry, bilberry, pencil box and light fumé aromas, nicely defined but demanding encouragement from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple, pliant tannins almost unrecognizable from the somewhat sturdy offerings in the past. It feels seductively smooth in texture with a very satisfying, detailed finish. One of the best Ormes de Pez that I have tasted in recent years. 92-94 points." Neal Martin, Vinous.com
