Domaine P&L Borgeot, RemignyFriday, July 3
Originally offered en primeur in early 2020, the wines below have now landed into bond.
One of the hardest working domaines we know, P & L Borgeot in the Côte de Beaune is our ‘go to’ for great value red burgundy with real character. At their 23 hectare domaine based in the hamlet of Remigny, brothers Pascal and Laurent produce exceptionally good value wines. Both brothers are held in high regard by their neighbours, who often send youngsters to them for a 'stage'.
The usual pro forma when visiting is to find no one at home at the little tasting room. Just when one is about to give up on ringing the bell, Laurent will whizz into the courtyard in his van, having come straight from working in the vineyards. He makes for a somewhat taciturn host, but fortunately the wines speak volumes. As is so often the case, the character of the winemaker is echoed in the glass, the lesser wines having a seriousness and intensity above their appellations.
Remigny lies in between Santenay and Chassagne. The domaine was handed down by their great grandfather and over the last few decades the brothers have built up their parcels in Santenay, Chassagne and Puligny.
