Tasting Notes"I was able to taste two vintages of Calendal, which is the personal label of famed oenologist Philippe Cambie. The 2019 Côtes du Rhône Villages Plan De Dieu shows nicely, with a full-bodied, concentrated, opulent style as well as classy notes of darker berry fruits, peppery garrigue, candied violets, and spring flowers. Pure and beautifully balanced, with a great finish, it's another no brainer purchase readers should snatch up. 92-94 points" Jebdunnuck.com

Tasting Notes"The 2019 Crozes-Hermitage Domaine De Thalabert showed well, with a floral, pepper, and sappy herb style as well as plenty of darker cherry and currant fruit. With medium to full body, a vibrant, elegant texture, present tannins, and good acidity, this is a classic, balanced Thalabert to hide for 2-4 years and enjoy over the following decade or more. 92-94 points." Tasting NotesDark and opaque core but with bright ruby rim. Explosive aromas of black fruits of every description on the nose...blackberry, black cherry and brambles show themselves in layer after layer. There also savoury notes of olive and some spices. Despite the intensity it is fresh on the nose and palate, with a wonderful silky texture to it. RKL
WHITE 2019 Lorient - Saint-Péray 75cl £125 per case of 6 Lorient
2019 / / 75cl

Tasting NotesLeaps out of the glass with vibrant, crushed rock mineral aromas and fresh pear fruit. The acidity on the palate is not high but the overall impression is of freshness, balanced by a slightly oily texture which lends weight. RKL------"A beautifully fresh and balanced Saint-Péray, rich and generous but with a good freshening acid bite. There's a pleasing support of grilled nut oak in the background bringing a bit of complexity and length, it works well. A very classic, unexaggerated and drinkable depiction of the terroir. Drinking Window 2020 - 2022. 92 points." Matt Walls, Decanter

Tasting NotesLess overtly mineral on the nose but with a richer, riper character and more stone fruits on the palate, with more of that pleasing, oily texture giving a sense of body. RKL

Tasting Notes"Moving to the Chateauneuf du Pape releases and a blend of 70% Grenache and 30% Mourvèdre, the classic 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape is a winner that’s well worth a case purchase, and it offers a ripe, powerful style that stays perfectly balanced and even elegant. Lots of black raspberries, toasted spices, dried garrigue, lavender, and licorice notes all emerge from the glass and this Provençal, full-bodied barrel sample will offer pleasure right out of the gate yet evolve for 15 years or more. 92-94 points." Jeb Dunnuck, Jun 2020
RED 2019 Vieux Télégraphe - Châteauneuf du Pape 75cl £230 per case of 6 Vieux Télégraphe

Tasting Notes"Looking at the flagship 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape from this benchmark estate, it reveals a denser ruby/purple color as well as stunning notes of smoked red and black fruits, crushed rocks, peppery garrigue, and truffly earth. Hitting the palate with full-bodied richness, it stays tight and compact on the palate, with terrific mid-palate depth, a focused, structured mouthfeel, and one great finish. This is a brilliant Châteauneuf du Pape from the Brunier family that’s going to benefit from upwards of 5-7 years of bottle age and have 30+ years of overall longevity. 96-98 points." Jeb Dunnuck, Jun 2020

Tasting Notes"Spice-accented blueberry, cherry and a hint of cracked pepper on the highly fragrant nose. Appealingly sweet and energetic in style, showing very good depth and sharp detail to the juicy, spice-tinged black/blue fruit flavors. Shows a building floral quality and energetic lift on the subtly tannic finish, which leaves behind a spicy suggestion of white pepper. 91-93 points." Josh Raynolds, Vinous.com

Tasting Notes"A complex bouquet evokes ripe blackberry, cherry compote, licorice and violet, energized by a spicy cracked pepper nuance. Broad and fleshy in the mouth, offering densely packed, smoke-tinged black/blue fruit, exotic spice and floral pastille flavors that pick up a minerally nuance as the wine opens up. Shows superb delineation and spicy lift on a long, silky finish framed by steadily building tannins. There were five demi-muids of this wine in 2019, all of them new. 94-96 points." Josh Raynolds, Vinous.com "Glass-staining purple colour. Incredibly powerful with Glass-staining purple colour. Incredibly powerful with searching perfume, leaf tea and glove leather behind the intense black fruits. Very fine and deep, perhaps just a touch too high in alcohol, a little overextracted. Phenomenal concentration and length however. A growling, brooding power, this could only be Hermitage. From vines of nearly 50 years of age grown organically on lieux-dits Beaumes and Péléat, matured in demi-muids with malolactic fermentation in barrel. Drinking Window 2027 - 2043. 96 points." Matt Walls, Oct 2020
