“Pinot Noir is the key pillar of the Bollinger style and we wanted to show the different facets of Pinot Noir.” - Denis Bunner, Bollinger Cellar Master
Every harvest, the winemaking team at Bollinger select Pinot Noir fruit from the best-performing vineyard and bottle it as a single-vineyard champagne, in their 'PN' series, labelled with letters denoting the vineyard name and year. PN 'TX20', is made with fruit from the 2020 vintage, from their Tauxières vineyard in the village of the same name.
PN TX20 is only the sixth cuvée of PN to be released and the second to be produced from the Tauxières Premier Cru. Situated on the southwest slopes of the Montagne de Reims, Tauxières benefits from a unique exposure and soil, blending chalk and clay, creating ideal conditions for Pinot Noir with freshness, elegance, and aromatic complexity.
Despite the name sounding like one of Elon Musk's children, we think the idea behind PN TX20 is an excellent one. Many years ago, I worked for Bollinger's UK office and was fortunate to taste the wines often (sometimes daily!), and frequently paired with powerful foods like venison. The quality of Bollinger's Pinot Noir, aged in oak barrels, is superb, and the house makes some of the most 'vinous' champagnes of any we know. Cuvées like this one give lovers of fine champagne a chance to experience the quality of the building blocks that make up the wines of this great house.
