Tasting Notes"Readers will find much to admire in Luciano Sandrone's 1996 Barolo Cannubi Boschis. More than anything else, the 1996 surprises by how sensual and open-knit it is, particularly within the context of the year. Silky, nuanced and super-expressive, the 1996 is a real joy to taste and drink today. Hints of smoke, licorice and tobacco lead into a core of dark red and purplish stone fruits. In 1996, Cannubi Boschis is a Barolo of pure grace and class. 95 points" Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com, Oct '17

Tasting Notes"Sandrone's 1999 Barolo Cannubi Boschis has become much more delicate over the last few years. Still fresh and vibrant, the 1999 impresses for its total sense of harmony. The tannins are now starting to melt away, allowing the fruit to be fully expressive. Violets, lavender and blue/purplish fruit grace the finish. There is a lot to like here. 93 points" Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com, Aug '14

Tasting Notes"Giacosa's 2007 Barbaresco Riserva Asili is flamboyant, exatically ripe and stunning in its absolute beauty. Bright red cherry fruit, rase petal, violet and mint abound in a spellbinding, utterly thrilling Barbaresco. I have always adored the 2007. Once again, it is pure magic. Drinking Window 2016 - 2042. 98 points" Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com

Tasting Notes"The 2007 Barolo Cannubi Boschis dazzles from start to finish. It shows marvelous delineation and freshness in its voluptuous, harmonious fruit, with no hard edges and an expansive, textured personality that conquers both the palate and intellect. Here, too, the oak is very well integrated, while the wine's balance and overall sense of harmony are nothing short of stunning. This is one of the very finest vintages of Cannubi Boschis. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2032. 97 points" Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com

Tasting Notes"The 2007 Barolo Le Vigne presents a beguiling combination of explosive, ripe fruit and finessed silky tannins that make it a thrilling wine to taste, even at this stage in its development. Small red berries, minerals, crushed flowers, vanillin and sweet spices are woven together in a fabric of undescribable elegance. The French oak has never been better balanced, while the vibrant, crystalline finish leaves a lasting impression. The 2007 Le Vigne has all the potential to develop into a spectacular wine?actually, it already is. This is a totally stunning bottle of Barolo. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2027. 96 points" Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com

Tasting Notes"A wine with silky tannins and pretty bright fruit of strawberries and sliced plums and hints of flowers. Full body, fine tannins and a wonderful clarity. Lovely length of fruit. This is the last vintage of Santo Stefano for Giacosa after many decades of success. Needs at least four or five years to soften. Try in 2016. 94 points" jamessuckling.com

Barolo Le Vigne
2011 / 7 cases / 75cl
£430 per case of 6
IB
Tasting Notes"The 2011 Barolo Le Vigne is an opulent and shapely wine with a point of extra cherry softness that you don't get in the 2011 Barolo Cannubi Boschis. That wine shows more austerity and vigor compared to this expression. But Le Vigne delivers an unexpected touch of roundness and opulence that fits the historic profile of this beautiful rendition of Nebbiolo. It presents a slightly more immediate style but it also has the inner grace and poise for a long cellar evolution. 94 points" Monica Larner, RobertParker.com------"Rose petal, mint, crushed flowers, sweet red berries and cinnamon are some of the many notes that take shape in the glass. A wine of exquisite perfume and aromatic lift, the 2011 Le Vigne is all about finesse and pure texture. With time in the glass, the 2011 blossoms into a layered, head turning wine. This is a great effort from Sandrone. In 2011, Le Vigne includes fruit from Villero for the first time. Few wines straddle the modern and traditional with this much pure finesse. 96 points" Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com

Tasting Notes"I am tempted to say the 2011 Barolo Rocche is another surprise, especially for attendees who had not tasted it yet. Soaring aromatics, silky tannins and vibrant, saline notes all make the 2011 absolutely delicious today. The 2011 will be even better in time, but it is a terrific example of contemporary Barolo that does not need to be cellared for years or decades to deliver pleasure. 95+ points" Antonio Galloni, May 2016
RED 2012 2 cases Luciano Sandrone - Barolo Le Vigne 75cl £420 per case of 6 Luciano Sandrone
Barolo Le Vigne
2012 / 2 cases / 75cl
£420 per case of 6
IB
Tasting Notes"The 2012 Barolo Le Vigne, here in a library release, is still a very young wine. Bright acids lift a core of red fruit in a Barolo that impresses with its vibrancy. Spice, blood orange, mint, rose petal and lavender open with a bit of time in the glass. The 2012 showed quite a bit of potential as a young wine, now, that potential is really starting to come through. This is a terrific showing. 96 points" Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com

Barolo Ravera
2012 / 2 cases / 75cl
£560 per case of 6
IB
Tasting Notes"The 2012 Barolo Ravera is once again a star. Finely cut and chiseled throughout, the 2012 boasts striking precision and nuance. Rose petal, chalk, white pepper, cranberry and pomegranate burst forward in a brilliant, exceptionally polished Barolo built on pure, sculpted elegance. Over the last few years Vietti has done a tremendous job in taming the intense Ravera tannins while preserving all of the focus that makes the wines from this site so alluring. The Ravera has been fabulous on the two occassions I have tasted it so far. 96 points" Antonio Galloni, November 2015
RED 2013 1 case Le Macchiole - Messorio 75cl £840 per case of 6 Le Macchiole
Messorio
2013 / 1 case / 75cl
£840 per case of 6
IB
Tasting Notes"The 2013 Messorio is the highlight in this range of new releases from La Macchiole. Ample and flamboyant on the palate, the 2013 exudes depth. The 2013 is naturally quite primary at this stage, but it will be magnificent with a few years in bottle. Messorio has a way of becoming exotic and visceral over time. Today, the 2013 is at the very early stages of that journey. 97 points" Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com. Nov '16
RED 2013 2 cases San Giusto a Rentennano - Percarlo 75cl £450 per case of 6 San Giusto a Rentennano
Percarlo
2013 / 2 cases / 75cl
£450 per case of 6
IB
Tasting Notes"A wine of extraordinary finesse, the 2013 Percarlo is utterly magnificent. Creamy and beautifully layered in the glass, the 2013 speaks to finesse more than the power and explosiveness that is often found here. With time in the glass, the mid-palate fleshes out and the flavors gain in intensity and darkness. When young, Percarlo is often forbiddingly tannic, but the gradual move towards larger format barrels and casks has, among other things, given the wine much more textural elegance. I can't wait to see how it ages. This is one of the most complete and strikingly beautiful wines of the vintage. 98 points" Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com. Oct '16
RED 2015 2 cases Biondi-Santi - Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 75cl £1,400 per case of 3 Biondi-Santi
Brunello di Montalcino Riserva
2015 / 2 cases / 75cl
£1,400 per case of 3
IB
Tasting Notes"The 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva pulls you close to the glass with a deep and seductive display of black raspberry preserves complemented by sweet sage, dried roses and pipe tobacco. With further coaxing, it gains in volume and lift, taking on hints of mint and camphor. This greets the palate with undeniable elegance, casting velvety waves of violet-tinged wild berries and sweet spices across a motivating core of juicy acidity, as a subtle coating of round tannins forms toward the close. While structured and incredibly long, energy remains high, as nuances of cherry pits offset by sour citrus and hints of cedar fade. It?s amazing to experience such energy and purity from a young Biondi Santi Riserva. 97 points." Eric Guido, Vinous.com
RED 2015 1 case Giacomo Conterno - Barbera d'Alba, Cerretta 75cl £440 per case of 12 Giacomo Conterno
Barbera d'Alba, Cerretta
2015 / 1 case / 75cl
£440 per case of 12
IB
Tasting Notes"Conterno's 2015 Barbera d'Alba Cerretta is much more expressive today than the Francia. A broad, ample wine, the 2015 is beautifully resonant on the palate, with all of the expansiveness that is so typical of this site. Next to the Francia, the Cerretta is a bit more overt and forthcoming, two qualities that are exactly what makes Barbera so compelling in the first place. Drinking Window 2020-2030. 94 points" Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com
RED 2016 4 cases Biondi-Santi - Brunello di Montalcino 75cl £825 per case of 6 Biondi-Santi
Brunello di Montalcino
2016 / 4 cases / 75cl
£825 per case of 6
IB
Tasting Notes"From a benchmark vintage, the Biondi-Santi 2016 Brunello di Montalcino reveals a gorgeous appearance with medium concentration highlighted by shiny hues of garnet and dark ruby. The first thing you notice is the compact dark fruit and rather robust textural fibre and power presented here. You almost bite into this wine, and you taste some fine grain linked to the young tannins. That, with the fresh acidity that is the hallmark signature of this estate, guarantees long cellar ageing, and I would put my money on this vintage for long-long-term longevity. The fruit is compact and supple with dried cherry, blue flower, iron ore and candied orange peel. There is tobacco, balsam herb and gardening soil in a supporting role, and the wine is beautifully fleshed out but also rich in this balanced growing season. It surely needs more time to come together with pinpoint precision, but the wine's elegance is a certainty. 97+ points." Monica Larner, Wine Advocate

Tasting Notes"The 2016 Barbaresco Gallina is a gorgeous wine full of the classic, youthful austerity that is such a signature of the house style. Deceptive in its light to medium-bodied feel, the Gallina offers up striking Nebbiolo aromatics redolent of crushed red berry fruit, spice, mint and rose petal. Nervy tannins lend energy and drive. The translucent beauty of Nebbiolo is so alluring. What a great start to this tasting. 94 points" Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com

Tasting Notes"The 2016 Barolo Pira is a gorgeous, complex wine endowed with terrific depth and tons of nuance that continues to open over time. Light on its feet and yet wonderfully deep, the 2016 has so much going on. Kirsch, sweet red cherry, spice, orange zest, menthol and spice fill out the layers effortlessly. Young Barolo tannins are present, but there is plenty of richness in the fruit to keep things in balance. The Pira is absolutely stellar in this tasting. 95 points" Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com

Tasting Notes"So spicy, yet also rich, the 2020 Soave Classico Calvarino impresses with an alluring mix of ground ginger, lime zest, minty-basil and wet stone. It envelopes the palate in silky textures while also bombarding it with salty mineral tones and a sour twang of green apple. While supremely elegant, the 2020 is also full of nervous energy, as it finishes long with tropical floral nuances and a bitter tug of lemon rinds. Readers can certainly enjoy the Calvarino today, yet it needs some time to come fully into focus. 93 points." Vinous.com (EG), Apr 2022

Tasting Notes"The 2021 Soave Classico lifts from the glass with an intense burst of sour citrus, crushed rocks, sea spray and sour melon. Its medium-weight textures wash across the palate with prominence, nicely contrasted by a reverberation of sweet and sour green citrus and zesty acidity. Granny Smith apples and exotic inner florals cascade throughout the finale, as the 2021 tapers off with unexpected length. Wait, this is an “entry-level” Soave Classico? Bravo. 91 points."
