The 2024 wines from Hudelot-Baillet in Chambolle-Musigny typify the very best of the vintage in the Côte d’Or. When we visited the domaine in November 2025 to taste the new vintage, we were struck by Dominique Le Guen’s smiling demeanour—a far cry from the previous year, when he was more than a little glum about the just-completed 2024 harvest, which he described as the most challenging of his career.
Dominique told us that it was only after tasting the wines following the end of the secondary fermentation in March that he realised just how good they were. He began picking on 20th September and employed a fairly classic vinification, though with less pigeage (punching down of the caps in the fermentation vats) than usual, allowing for a gentler extraction.
Tasting the range ourselves, we found an exciting collection of wines with excellent tautness and a distinctive expression of ripeness. They are fresh on both nose and palate, with balanced alcohol levels—often around 13%—yet still displaying great concentration. This is a direct consequence of the exceptionally low yields, in some cases as little as 19 hl/ha (for the Hautes Côtes de Nuit), with the total harvest amounting to just a third of a normal crop.
The Bourgogne Pinot Noir and Hautes-Côtes de Nuits remain two of our best-value Côte de Nuits red Burgundies. Regular followers will not be disappointed with the 2024s, which show fine-grained tannins and distinctive aromas of viandes grillées, a characteristic we encountered at several domaines.
The Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes and the premiers crus Les Charmes and Les Cras were all superb, again marked by notably fine tannins that will see them drinking well from an early stage. These may not be wines for extended ageing—Dominique suggests enjoying the 2024s at around 5–7 years—but they will be utterly charming in their youth. We usually have a preference for the chalk-dominated terroir of Les Charmes, but this year the more clay-dominated terroir of Les Cras stood out for its broad shoulders and depth of fruit.
Sadly, no Chambolle-Musigny Les Borniques premier cru was made in 2024, but the grand cru Bonnes Mares was as impressive as ever—though barely enough was produced to fill a single barrel.
Hudelot-Baillet’s wines have a strong following among our customers and stocks are limited. For the premiers crus, we request balanced orders (1:1 with the village wines, or 1:2 with the Bourgogne or Hautes-Côtes). Bonnes Mares is offered on allocation; suitably balanced orders are requested—please enquire.
Offered en primeur. Wines due to land in the UK in autumn 2026.

Tasting NotesFrom 0.13 ha of east-facing vines on limestone and white clayey-marl, at the Southern end of Bonnes Mares. The vines are 95 years old! The wine is aged for 17 months in 50% new oak barrels. Headily ripe but without any sense of being cooked or hot. Intensely earthy, sous bois aromas, bramble and gamey aromas. On the palate, there are more earthy and generally 'below ground' flavours (we're tasting this on a root day) with extremely pure and precise dark cherry fruit and fine minerality on the long finish. Tasting NotesFruit for the domaines Hautes-Côtes de Nuits Rouge comes from vines on clay-limestone soil in the commune of Meuilley, a few kilometres south west of Chambolle. Aged for 12 months in 15% new oak. Earthy aromas and grilled meats on the nose, along with very pure, concentrated black fruits, confirmed on the palate. RKL |

Tasting NotesA blend of grapes from vines in two lieux-dits vineyards in the village of Vougeot, just a couple of kilometres from Chambolle, on clay-limestone soils. Aged for 12 months in 20% new oak barrels. Piercingly fresh, pretty, floral aromas and fruit on the nose, cherry and blackberry, with some earthy notes. The palate is more taut, with cranberry flavours and chalky acidity. The tautness and concentration of the '24 vintage make this one of the most enjoyable vintages of this cuvée to date. RKL |

Tasting NotesThe domaine's holding in the Charmes premier cru is just 0.63 ha in size, with predominantly limestone soil, at 270 metres altitude. The wine spends 17 months on average in 30% new oak barrels. The cool limestone soil accentuates acidity and freshness, with more intensity of aroma than the village wine...violets on the nose, but also intense, rich earthy-humus notes. Full of earthy power on the palate too, along with concentrated blueberry and cherry fruit. Les Cras seems to have excelled in the '24 vintage. RKL |

Tasting NotesThe domaine's holding in Les Cras is even smaller than that in Les Charmes, just 0.37 ha. In most vintages Les Cras shows dark, brooding fruit when young and needs time, but the 2024 has an added elegance and energy, as well as a beautiful texture. Possibly the most impressive Les Cras we have tasted. RKL |

Tasting NotesFrom a 1.2 hectare plot on clay-limestone soil in the heart of the Chambolle commune, aged for around 17 months in 25% new oak barrels. Yields were just 22 hl/ha in '24, resulting in very concentrated fruit. Beautiful aromatic nose of violets, wood smoke, Victoria plum and dark cherry. Fresh acidity accentuating the supple tannins and a velvety texture. Excellent length on the palate. The old vines really do lend a concentration and depth on the palate rarely found in village wines. RKL |
