Released from the Lafite cellars on 22nd September 2025, these magnums of 2005 Château Lafite Rothschild have the best possible provenance, come from the best vintage of the era, and are in fantastic format for long-term ageing. What's more, at £1,175 in bond, this unique parcel is offered at the best price on the market!
The 2005 vintage in Pauillac was a dry one, with drought from the end of May, causing the vines to reduce their foliage. High temperatures in June and July were followed by more moderate temperatures and cool nights in August, promoting slow and balanced ripening in near-perfect conditions. The harvest, carried out from September 22 to October 12, also took place under optimal conditions.
The wines for Lafite's grand vin were vinified in small parcels, fermented in a mixture of wooden, stainless steel or cement vats. The wine was aged in oak barrrels from the property's own cooperage for 20 months, before individual tasting of each barrel to select the highest quality wines for the final blend, comprised of 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot.
More recent vintages have produced impressive wines, but with the 2005 now twenty years on from the vintage, none have yet shown the same ethereal balance and finesse.

Tasting Notes"The NV Collection 244 is gorgeous. Bright and focused, with a lovely cut, the 244 is immediately captivating. Dried pear, chamomile, herbs, mint and crushed rocks abound. Based on the 2019 vintage with 36% perpetual reserve wines from vintages 2012-2018, this vibrant, wonderfully crystalline Champagne impresses from beginning to end. Saline notes extend the finish effortlessly. Dosage is 7 grams per liter. 93 points" Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com------"A pale silver/straw hue, the NV Champagne Collection 244 has 2019 as its base, with 42% Chardonnay, 26% Meunier, and the rest Pinot Noir. Expressive on opening, it’s fresh with a beautiful floral perfume and reveals pure notes of red berries, cherry, fresh peach, and a lovely fresh bit of primary fruit. It has a fine and refined mousse, and the palate is supple and inviting. Medium-bodied and elegant, with a ripe core, it has a delicate salinity to balance its freshness and has an attractive, lightly tannic feel while retaining a refined and precise profile. Approachable and fantastic now, it will be exciting to see how this develops over time. It continues to be an exceptional value. Drink 2024-2036. They have dialed the dosage back by a gram from the previous edition to 7 grams per liter of dosage. 93 points" Jebdunnuck.com------"Based on the 2019 vintage, Roederer's NV Brut Collection 244 is the finest release of the house's reimagined non-vintage Brut to date. Offering up aromas of pear, peach and nectarine mingled with notions of white flowers, beeswax, freshly baked bread and buttery pastry, it's medium to full-bodied, layered and fleshy, with a pretty pinpoint mousse, racy acids and a long, chalky finish. The quality of the base vintage really shines through. 93+ points" William Kelley, RobertParker.com------"The first impression is as invigorating as a sea breeze. I love the interplay of mirabelle, grapefruit and lychee fruit with minty freshness and waxiness from lees contact. And all this is welded to a beautifully proportioned palate with plenty of structure, the acidity bright and the mousse animating. Very salty finish that pulls you back for more. A cuvee of 41% chardonnay, 33% pinot noir and 26% pinot meunier. Of these, 15% fermented in oak and 85% in stainless steel. The final blend contained 36% reserve perpetual and 10% reserve wines of the 2012 - 2018 vintage from oak. The dosage is 7 g/l. Drink or hold. 94 points" jamessuckling.com |

Tasting Notes“This has pretty and elegant aromas of pears, apple blossoms, grapefruit and chalk. It’s silky, fresh and beautifully balanced on the palate, with very soft bubbles. Based on 2021, with reserve wine from a perpetual reserve created in 2012, plus reserve wines kept in oak from 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017. Drink now. 93 points" Claire Nesbitt, jamessuckling.com------“The NV Brut Collection 246 is positively stellar. It's a terrific example of where Roederer is going with this cuvée stylistically. Brisk saline notes cut through a core of orchard fruit, mint, white pepper and slate. There are no hard angles or awkward contours. The 246 is based on 2021, an extremely tricky vintage for Champagne. Chef de Caves Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon bumped up the percentage of Chardonnay considerably and focused on Pinots from the Montagne de Reims. About 30% of the lots underwent malolactic fermentation to soften the edges. Twenty-four percent of the wines were fermented in oak, the rest in tank. The 246 is a blend of 55 % base 2021 vintage wines described above, plus 30% perpetual reserve going back to 2012 (mostly from Cumières, Vertus and Verzy) in tank and 10% young-vine juice from Cristal plots aged in cask. The final blend is 54% Chardonnay (as opposed to the more typical 44%), 35% Pinot Noir and 11% Meunier Dosage is 7 grams per liter. More importantly, the 246 is impeccably done and absolutely delicious. Drinking Window 2025 – 2035. 93 points" Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com |
