“Savoury, smokey and saline, the 2023 Wild Sauvignon is taut and tense...this has the concentration and structure to go on for a decade or more. Another success story for this bottling. 93 points."  Rebecca Gibb MW, Vinous.com, Feb '26

With spring approaching, a fresh, wild-ferment Sauvignon Blanc with aromas and flavours of elderflower seems like a good idea, so we've sourced a parcel of our favourite Marlborough Sauvignon:  Greywacke's 2023 Wild Sauvignon Blanc, which scored 93 points just last month in a tasting with Vinous.com's Rebecca Gibb MW.

The 2023 Wild Sauvignon Blanc is a world away from mass-produced, commercial New Zealand Sauvignon.  Greywacke (pron. Grey-wacky) Winery was established in 2009 by Kevin Judd, previously the founding winemaker at Cloudy Bay, where he worked for 25 years.  Named after the large grey river stones that are found across New Zealand, the winery is as famous for its intense, elegant Sauvignon Blanc as for its Pinot Noir

We met Kevin and his wife Kimberley in London a few years ago and the quality of the wines has stayed with us.  Fruit for the 2023 Wild Sauvignon was sourced from Marlborough's Southern Valleys.  The juice is cold-pressed before racking into French oak barriques, with a long, slow fermentation by wild yeasts over six months.  The result is a wine with beautiful smoky aromas, minerality, and a complex texture on the palate, balancing the rich fruit character.

This parcel will be here in early April, so you can enjoy the wine as soon as spring arrives in earnest.

Offered in bond, available April 2026

Tasting Notes“Savoury, smokey and saline, the 2023 Wild Sauvignon is taut and tense, almost un-Marlborough-like, but over the course of 24 hours it reveals passion fruit and elderflower notes. If you haven't got that sort of time on your hands, pull out the decanter. The wine's sophistication comes not from its flavours but its shape and athletic acid profile. The texture intrigues with its focus and push-and-pull tension. The lip-smacking, medium long finish is drawn out with smokey and floral talc as well as classic passion fruit and elderflower. Young but eminently drinkable, this has the concentration and structure to go on for a decade or more. Another success story for this bottling. 93 points." Rebecca Gibb MW, Vinous.com, Feb '26
