2023 Château Laroque En Primeur

2023 Château Laroque has just been released at £240 per dozen in bond, another splendid performance, with 95 points from Jane Anson and 94-96 points from Neal Martin, equalling many cru classé wines.

Laroque is progressing rapidly from being 'one to watch' to an established star of the Right Bank, but, happily, prices have yet to catch up with the points.

The largest estate in the appellation, Laroque has 61 hectares of vines, averaging 50 years of age, and sits on a limestone plateau, the classic terroir of St-Emilion.  The Beaumartin family and their technical director David Suire have transformed the wines in recent years.  We cannot recommend better value than this!

Offered en primeur, landing spring 2026.

Magnums available with £20 ex-VAT bottling surcharge per six, please enquire for other formats.

ABOUT CHATEAU LAROQUE

Despite boasting a very grand 18th Century Château, Laroque is family-owned and manages to retain a personal appeal.  The estate has been producing wine since the 12th Century and once encompassed 600 hectares of land.  It was bought in 1935 by the Beaumartin family, who were responsible for restoring it after the vineyard ceased production in the 1920s.  Xavier Beaumartin is now joined by his nephew, Stanislas Droin.  David Suire is the Technical Director.

Even though much-reduced in size from medieval times, with 61 hectares of vines, this is still one of the larger estates on the Right Bank.  The vines are on a mixture of clay and classic limestone plateaux, planted to Merlot and Cabernet Franc vines averaging 50 years old, all managed biodynamically.  The elevage is part in new oak and part in larger oak casks.

Laroque changed focus to making fine wine in 2015 and first began releasing its wines for sale on the Bordeaux Place in 2018.

Tasting Notes"Exhibiting aromas of dark, minty berries, bay leaf and creamy new oak, the 2023 Laroque is medium to full-bodied, with a sweet core of fruit, powdery tannins and a penetrating, mineral finish. 92-94 points" William Kelley, RobertParker.com------"This is full and substantial, with firm tannins and a crunchy finish. Lots of blue fruit, blackberry, crushed-stone and mineral character. Very structured. 99% merlot and 1% cabernet franc. 93-94 points" jamessuckling.com------The 2023 Laroque has an outstanding bouquet that shades many of its peers. It conveys transparency and mineralité at a higher level and leaves you wanting more. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins that frame the pure black cherry and raspberry fruit. There is structure here, and the finish is notably longer than other wines of its class. This is very impressive, and I can imagine it aging with style. 94-96 points" Neal Martin, Vinous.com
