FEATURED WINES

ALBARINO, TERRAS GAUDA, SAN CAMPIO, RIAS BAIXAS, GALICIA 2019

 £14.95

The new vintage, just arrived for summer, this is very intense with wonderful fruit concentration, showing grapefruit-citrus on the nose and palate and a saline character which would make it perfect with Aldeburgh crab and other sea foods.

TERRE DE SILEX’, COTEAUX DE GIENNOIS, LOIRE VALLEY, BERTHIER 2018

 £18.00

"Pungent and intense, minerally nose with fruit that's really quite ripe and full. Gosh the Upper Loire is changing! Nice bite on the end with a little whiff of struck stone. This would make a scintillating aperitif or accompaniment to white fish and vegetable dishes. Impressively persistent. Quite bold. 17 points."  Jancis Robinson, jancisrobinson.com 7th June 2020

BOURGOGNE CHARDONNAY, ALAIN CHAVY 2018

 £17.80

A ripe but mineral Bourgogne Chardonnay from Alain Chavy, who owns a 7 hectare domaine in Puligny-Montrachet.  This has beautiful fruit-purity, with just a small amount of oak influence (10% new) and - best of all - a hint of flint on the palate and struck-match aromas on the nose which mark it out as a 'baby-Puligny'.

RED WINES

VENTOUX, DELAS FRERES, COTES DU RHONE, 2018

£       10.50

A Grenache/Syrah blend, wonderful concentration of dark fruits and crisp minerality, well-balanced with fine structure. As Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate wrote (of the inferior 2017), “it’s a screaming bargain!..90 points” We could not agree more.

Château DURAND-LAPLAGNE, PUISSEGUIN ST.-EMILION, 2016

£       12.50

"The 2016 Durand Laplagne has a crisp bouquet with blackcurrant, mulberry and attractive floral aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, a little foursquare in style, but with plenty of fresh black fruit mixed with cedar towards the finish. Very fine potential here. …" Robert Parker's Wine Advocate                                                                     MAGNUMS £27.50

Château CROIX-MOUTON AC BORDEAUX, 2014

£       12.95

Previously known as Château Mouton until threatened with a lawsuit by Mouton Rothschild when revived by current owner J.P. Janoueix…Soft with sweet, ripe red and blackcurrant fruit.

Château D’AIGUILHE-QUERRE CASTILLON COTES DE BORDEAUX, 2012

£       14.95

"A strong effort from this tiny estate… offers up powdered rock minerality, dense plum, black cherry and blackberry fruit, an opaque ruby/purple color, medium body and outstanding concentration…should drink well for a decade or more…" Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

SAUMUR-CHAMPIGNY DOMAINE ROCHES NEUVES, 2018

£       16.95

Beautiful leafy Cabernet Franc on the nose, wonderful intensity and notes of redcurrants…Lovely soft entry with excellent concentration; fresh, ripe fruit, crunchy tannins with a beautiful vibrancy.  It’s a relatively light wine, 12.5% alcohol, but perfectly balanced.  Serve at ‘cellar temperature’.

FLEURIE CLOS DE LA ROILETTE ALAIN COUDERT 2018

£       17.95

"…the wine's tannins…are melting and it's becoming increasingly supple and charming. Displaying scents of blackberries, raspberries, violets and licorice, it's medium to full-bodied, fine-boned and nicely balanced.…92 points." Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (WK)

KARL JOHNER KAISERSTUHL PINOT NOIR BISCHOFFINGEN, BADEN

£       18.50

From vineyards growing on volcanic ash and loess soils. Careful handpicking and exact grape sorting is compulsory. The grapes undergo 4 weeks of skin contact fermentation, 100% destemmed, a malolactic fermentation follows after 6 months. The wine is aged in used oak barrels for 20 months prior to release. “I can’t believe it’s not B(urgundy)!”

COTES DE BROUILLY, LES SEPT VIGNES Château THIVIN, 2018

£       19.75

"... aromas of ripe cassis, candied violets and plums…it’s medium to full-bodied, rich and concentrated, structured around fine-grained but chewy tannins and tangy balancing acids, with considerable depth and substance at the core. … 94 points" Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (WK)

Château CAPBERN-GASQUETON CRU BOURGEOIS ST. ESTEPHE, 2011

£       22.00

Our old friend, the stablemate of Ch Calon Ségur....Deep garnet… This really does smell classy. Very juicy but with the stony background of any St-Estèphe. Softer than most vintages but definitely ready to enjoy already. Fresh and vigorous. Quite long. Jancis Robinson

HAUTES-COTES DE NUITS DOMAINE HUDELOT-BAILLET, 2017

£       23.50

Hudelot-Baillet is a rising star of Chambolle Musigny and their Hautes Côtes de Nuits is a wonderful introduction to a domaine of stunning premiers and grands crus. 2017 is a very forward vintage and allows the fruit to show beautifully.  Drink now and over the next 5 years.

Château MUSAR, BEKAA VALLEY, LEBANON 2009

£       25.00

"...Very fruity, sweet and velvety on opening, it seemed to be a relatively soft wine with modest concentration and a fleshy and forward feel… This seemed mostly about the sexy fruit on opening….needed a couple of hours of aeration to show a bit more stuffing, pulling in some of the sweet fruit while displaying a bit of complexity and a bit of steel underneath… a rather sexy beast...Drink now-2020.  88 points." (MS) Wine Advocate (213), Jun 2014

RESERVE DE MALARTIC LAGRAVIERE PESSAC-LEOGNAN, 2010

£       28.00

Wow! The second wine of a terrific ‘Graves’ cru classé property from a truly outstanding vintage. Richly textured with dark berry fruits and the tell-tale 2010 freshness. Buy in bulk and drink now!

FIXIN LAROZE DE DROUHIN, 2018

£       29.50

Great up--front intensity on the nose, with no lack of purity too.  Fine tannic structure with good minerality, very dark fruits and soft acidity.  Open, approachable and with lovely length on the palate provided by those soft tannins.  Enormous enjoyment for short-term drinking, although it may well surprise in terms of ageing ability.  RKL

Château LALANDE-BORIE CRU BOURGEOIS ST JULIEN, 2005

£       33.00

Made by the team at ‘super-second’ growth Ducru Beaucaillou this is a beautiful example of a fully mature wine from an outstanding vintage at this level. Medium-bodied with ripe cassis fruit and cigar-box complexity with a perfectly integrated tannic structure. Just perfect.

Château MEYNEY CRU BOURGEOIS ST. ESTEPHE, 2003

£       37.50

From one of Bordeaux’ great terroirs, next door to Château Montrose and overlooking the Gironde estuary. Saint Estèphe was the most successful commune in the hot growing season of 2003 and this is now at the peak of its maturity. Very fine.

Château POUJEAUX CRU BOURGEOIS MARGAUX, 2005

£       45.00

One of the few ‘names’ from this outstanding vintage that’s ready to drink; medium to full-bodied with good structure and loads of juicy black fruit flavours this is delicious now but don’t be afraid to keep some back to drink over the next 10+ years.

WHITE WINES

PICPOUL DE PINET DOMAINE DELSOL, 2019

£       10.25

A delicious, single estate example of this fashionable Languedoc white. It combines the lovely ripe fruit of the South with a fresh acidity normally associated with more northerly wines and is great with food or drunk on its own.

MUSCADET SUR LIE LES BARBOIRES DOMAINE DAVID, 2018

£       10.95

Good Muscadet Sur Lie can be one of the best value dry white wines available from anywhere in the world and the Barboires is no exception. Fresh and vibrant with great intensity and terrific mineral tension. The finish is very long with wonderful fruit concentration.

SAUVIGNON DE TOURAINE, DOMAINE RABLAIS, LOIRE VALLEY 2019

£       11.50

Crisp, Loire Sauvignon Blanc – clean and fresh with delicious, crunchy, mouth-watering acidity.  The perfect livener..!

MACON SOLUTRE DOMAINE DENUZILLER, 2018

£       12.95

100% Chardonnay from this small family property in the village of Solutré Pouilly in Southern Burgundy.  Crisp, fruity and unoaked, with lovely richness.

VIOGNIER COLLINES RHODANIENNES LOUIS CLERC 2019

£       16.00

An extraordinary wine, from vines in the Condrieu area but which are not classified as such. Savoury but with all the intense musk and stone fruit aromas of Viognier, with some restrained, mineral character.

PINOT BLANC AUXERROIS ALBERT MANN ALSACE, 2017

£       16.50

Pinot Blanc is the ‘Frenchman’s house wine’, being fresh and dry yet with enough body to match with food as well as being a delicious aperitif. Albert Mann, a small estate in Wettolsheim near Colmar, has been certified organic since 2010 and this Pinot has more richness than many.

MENETOU-SALON ‘CLOS DE LA CURE’ ROGER CHAMPAULT, 2018

£       17.50

Made from 100% Sauvignon Blanc and under the same rules and regulations as its neighbours Sancerre and Pouilly Fumé. With its wonderful, classic Loire-Sauvignon style, this Menetou-Salon offers excellent value for money compared to its more wealthy neighbours.

HOFFMANN AND RATHBONE BACCHUS, EAST SUSSEX 2018

£       17.50

Delicate floral elderflower and pear aromas lead to a soft, rounded palate, medium to light-bodied, with flavours of waxy yellow apple (Golden Delicious?) and a little citrus…extremely persistent. RKL "Subtle aromas of white flowers and herbs in this elegant, barrel-fermented wine give way to a juicy, fresh and rounded style of Bacchus (with 20% Reichensteiner) that is stylish and self-assured. 91 points." Susie Barrie MW, Decanter Magazine

BOURGOGNE CHARDONNAY, ALAIN CHAVY 2018

£       17.80

The first of two such wines on this list from outstanding producers in Puligny Montrachet. In contrast to the richness of the Boillot, Chavy’s shows elegant minerality and wonderful finesse.

‘TERRE DE SILEX’, COTEAUX DE GIENNOIS, LOIRE VALLEY, BERTHIER 2018

£       18.00

"Pungent and intense, minerally nose with fruit that's really quite ripe and full. Gosh the Upper Loire is changing! Nice bite on the end with a little whiff of struck stone. This would make a scintillating aperitif or accompaniment to white fish and vegetable dishes. Impressively persistent. Quite bold. 17 points."  Jancis Robinson, jancisrobinson.com 7th June 2020

KUMEU RIVER ESTATE CHARDONNAY, NEW ZEALAND 2017

£       22.00

New oak evident at first on nose and palate, but the fruit pushed through this admirably and continues to assert itself.  Pithy citrus and candied stone fruits on the nose, balanced by green and red apple flavours on the palate.  Very fine texture, great length.

BOURGOGNE BLANC, JEAN-MARC BOILLOT 2016

£       24.50

Outstanding ‘entry-level’ fine white Burgundy from this excellent address in Puligny-Montrachet…in keeping with the house style this is broad, rich and juicy with far more fruit and complexity than one should expect from this basic appellation. Limited supply, buy some!

SANTENAY-GRAVIERES PREMIER CRU DOMAINE MICHELOT, 2016

£       35.00

One of the most respected domaines in Meursault, Michelot make beautifully saline and mineral white wines in a modern, terroir-driven style. This delicious premier cru Santenay has a bit of bottle age and is drinking brilliantly.

PULIGNY MONTRACHET ‘ENSEIGNIERES’ JEAN PASCAL, 2018

£       42.50

‘Les Enseignères is a single-vineyard, a lieu-dit but not a premier cru.  Pithy, ‘cisele’ and with abundant orchard fruit, red apple and peach, very much in JP style, with the focused, precise style we associate with wines from this domaine.   Excellent continuation on palate.  As ever with 18s, not a hint of anything overipe or hot. V good.  RKL

PULIGNY MONTRACHET LES FOLATIERES 1ER CRU ALAIN CHAVY, 2016

£       55.00

Refined mineral aromas and some smokiness on the nose with a sea-side ozone freshness…Lime zest, acacia and hazelnut on the palate, with a fresh lemon pith texture. Minerality gives the wines its length on the palate, accompanied by long, persistent fruit.

CHAMPAGNE & SPARKLING – prices per bottle inc.VAT

PELLETIER BLANC DE BLANCS BRUT NV, METHODE TRADITIONELLE

£       12.50

An outstanding Champagne-style sparkler made in Southern-Burgundy – great value for money.

RENARD BARNIER BRUT, CHAMPAGNE NV

£       24.00

For over 20 years Renard Barnier champagne has been exceeding our expectations for quality and value for money.  A ‘Blanc de Noirs’, it is made entirely from black grapes leading to a rich, rounded, fuller style of champagne.  Aged for 3 years before dégorgement, far longer than regulations require, resulting in a rich, almost toasty nose, crisp, balancing acidity on the palate with apple and citrus notes and small, persistent bubbles.  A creamy finish with a touch of brioche, and very good length.

LOUIS ROEDERER BRUT PREMIER, CHAMPAGNE NV

£       37.50

"...consistently the most impressive non-vintage champagne...".  The work done to improve quality in their vineyards over the last decade has been nothing short of revolutionary, with a large part now run biodynamically and organically. Jancis Robinson, The FT

HOFFMAN & RATHBONE ROSE BRUT RESERVE ENGLISH SPARKLING

£       39.50

Bright, stunning pale strawberry colour and fine, persistent bubbles.  An intense but pure nose of strawberries and hints of citrus orange and lemons….Very complex palate, with layer upon layer of red fruits and apples all balanced perfectly by crisp, refreshing acidity….Tangy rhubarb and wild strawberries on the finish – this is a delicious, extremely high quality Rosé.

“R” DE RUINART BRUT, CHAMPAGNE NV

£       45.00

Our favourite Grande Marque champagne, stylish, refined, elegant and memorable.

"Very intense nose with sour green fruit and a strong salty note. This is very stylised and uncompromising, with loads of hard cheese and yeasty character. Not for mainstream palates, perhaps, but should satisfy most ardent fizzophiles. 17 + points."  Richard Hemming MW, Jancisrobinson.com 2017

DESSERT WINES

Château RAYNE VIGNEAU, GRAND CRU CLASSE SAUTERNES, 2005              HALVES

£       19.50

Always one of the fresher, racier styled Sauternes in 2005 this is balanced by a wonderful depth of fruit, good weight and beautiful texture. A brilliant sweet wine.

Château DE FARGUES, SAUTERNES, 2003

£       36.00
