Tasting Notes“Tasted in two different contexts, a few hours apart: first at the end of the vertical of Hill of Grace which stretched back to the 1958; then again, as the last wine in the line-up of new 2018s (Wheelwright, Mount Edelstone, etc). Coming after a cavalcade of developed, complex previous vintages – particularly the super-dense 2016 – the 2018 seemed refreshingly ‘elegant’, spicy and bright to smell, and intense but restrained and composed in the mouth. Tasting it straight after the Hill of Roses, by contrast, made its perfume seem a touch more subdued, but made you realise how much more depth, density, richness and sheer length it has in comparison to the younger-vine Shiraz from the same site. Either way, an exceptional vintage of the HoG. 18.5 points.” Max Allen, JancisRobinson.com, Mar ‘23------“...On the nose, the 2018 vintage assists this wine in speaking clearly of its regional location: raspberry and liquorice, coal dust, black tea and tobacco leaf. There are inflections of black truffle and bone broth, which always seem to emerge, however the wine is brighter and more focused than I have seen. It offers a beautiful, svelte display of fruit and tannin, with all things in harmony in the mouth. This is very long, as we would expect from the pedigree of this wine and the vineyard. It is concentrated and intense, sinewy, elegant and powerful—a wine for the future generation. 98 points.” Erin Larkin, Wine Advocate, Apr ‘23------“The 2018 vintage coincides with 150 years of Henschke family winemaking. This is immediately juicy and forward, then it regains its composure, remembers its origins and finishes closed and firm. This is a classic 2018 with a great fruit expression, yet the incredible concentration and inbuilt density of tannins are in perfect sync. The length is impressive, and the fruit character is kept up from start to finish, and while the earth, five spice and pepper notes seem to sit back a little in the glass, they are buried in this wine. Only 20% new oak was used here; I suspect because the earth and spice notes are so prevalent in this vintage, a decision was made not to push them even harder by adding oak, and so it is a fascinatingly juicy wine. 99 points.” Matthew Jukes, Club Oenologique, Apr ‘23------“The 60th anniversary of Australia's most famous single-vineyard wine, whose oldest contributing patch – the 0.56ha Grandfathers – was planted an incredible 160 years ago. There can't be many wines whose inaugural vintage came from 100-year-old vines! As always, it's a powerful, muscular wine built for the long haul, showcasing silky but structured tannins, fresh acidity, and concentrated, complex yet graceful flavours of ripe blackberry and boysenberry, lighter red and blue fruits, earthy beetroot, peppery cured meat and an exotic, herbal incense note. Named for the Gnadenberg Lutheran church which stands opposite the vineyard, itself named for the region in Silesia from which Johann Christian Henschke emigrated in 1841. 99 points.” Tina Gellie, Decanter.com, Mar ‘23------"A superb and harmonious Hill of Grace with wonderful complexity on the nose that keeps bringing you back to the glass. Minty blueberries, red berries and some blackberries. Heather and violets with beautifully integrated spices of peppercorn and five spice. Graphite, salt chocolate and cigar box, too. Intense, lush and concentrated. This is barely full-bodied but the concentration is simply effortless and the flavors grow on the palate. Super silky and svelte tannins glide through the even and cohesive palate. Persistent finish, lasting for more than two minutes. Let it breathe if you decide to open it now, but it will sleep well in your cellar, too. 99 points" jamessuckling.com |

Tasting Notes“This has attractive dark peaches, red cherries, blood oranges and really exotic fruit aromas with such an expressive nose that is swathed in fragrant spices. The palate has strongly defined dark plums and blackberries and mouthwateringly intense dark cherries. Super succulent and deeply flavored with silky, gently sinewy, young-tannin muscle. A great Armagh for sure. Try from 2028 and drink over the following two decades. 99 points." James Suckling------“A meaty, savoury, spiced nose, something so welcoming about it, warm and friendly with a touch of perfume, dark chocolate, cinnamon and pink peppercorn to the blackcurrant, damsons and plums. Rich, ample and generous, yet delivered with such supple and velvety-soft tannins. This has an elegance to it, a cool sophistication in terms of the profile - neat and tidy, quite linear right now, brimming with energy, not yet fully expansive or loose, but quietly controlled and calm. It's confident though with invigorating acidity and I love the focus, detail and the purity of fruit. Sweet red fruits - strawberries, raspberries and red cherries with a slight balsamic, pomegranate edge that is so delicious. Juicy, crunchy, succulent and ripe but with an effortless edge to it. Supremely drinkable and likeable - what a gorgeous wine! A quality vintage and excellent winemaking skill on show. Ageing 18 months in French oak. 100 points." Decanter |

Tasting Notes"Deeply colored, the bold and dense 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon First Growth opens with punchy redcurrant, blackcurrant, baked earth and dried herb aromas with excellent fruit volume. A tight and compact palate follows. The fruit is expressive and generous. The tannins are firm and well-formed in support, both coming together to deliver a long, composed and drying finish. It's a classic Cabernet Sauvignon built for the long haul. 94 points." (AH), Vinous, Jul '23 |

Tasting NotesA very restrained nose of cassis and hedgerow fruits with classic white pepper, violet and herbs, this is remarkably reminiscent of Cornas or top St-Josephs, cool and classical in style. It should be drinking well on landing and for the medium term, over the next decade. RKL |

Tasting Notes"Baked strawberries, pomelo zest and potpourri with underlying sweet spices of red licorice and ground cloves. Medium-bodied, finely-grained silky tannins with refreshing acidity. A hint of tomato leaf notes at the end. Zesty and flavorsome. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold. 94 points." James Suckling, Nov '23------"The 2021 Pinot Noir Burn Cottage Vineyard caresses the palate with its suave texture and creamy appeal. While it has excellent density on the palate, it has a sense of lightness. It is not a muscular style but focuses on elegance, finesse of texture and purity. Unadulterated flavors of red cherry and Damson combine with carefully integrated oak. The long, poised, and tranquil finish has a sense of a flourish. 2024-2033. 95 points." Rebecca Gibb MW, Vinous, May '24------"The 2021 Burn Cottage Vineyard Pinot Noir is alive and energetic, svelte and composed. As I write this, I am sitting at the bottom of the Burn Cottage Vineyard in Lowburn, looking up the rows. This is a mineral, nuanced expression, with graphite and white tea, pomegranate pearls, raspberry licorice, rosehips and crushed pink peppercorns. This is what I came here for. It’s thrilling, lacy, delicate and focused. Exciting wine, exciting drinking. It sits on the palate nicely—evenly weighted, and it spools through the long finish... yes! 13.5% alcohol, sealed under natural cork. 2023-2036. 96 points." Erin Larkin, Wine Advocate, Dec '23 |

Tasting Notes"The 2021 Hill of Grace Shiraz comes from a vineyard that sits at 400 meters above sea level—a beautiful, remote-feeling place. The vineyard is picked block by block, defined by vine age, soil types, elevation and position within the vineyard. The older vines within the vineyard tend to hold their acidity and retain lower pH with higher natural acidity than the younger vines, which also assists in determining the parcels. "Ironically, this is the simplest wine to make; it's the vineyard that produces the wine like this. It's due to the work in the vineyard over many generations," says Stephen Henschke. So, to the wine. It is pure and fine, with a languid pool of fruit that is characterized by black silty tannins and persistent, seamless length. This speaks of the ancient place, the rocks, the vines. This is just a magnificent, graceful wine here, one that is "immune to hyperbole," as they say. 14.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap. The Wheelwright vineyard has 50-year-old vines, Mount Edelstone is over 100 years old, and the ancestor vines in the Hill of Grace vineyard are aver 150 years old. 2025-2051. 98 points." (EL) Wine Advocate------"This outstanding 2021 Shiraz Hill of Grace is a confident young wine built for the long haul in a punchy package that is still tightly wound. It is starting to reveal some of its charms with rocky, I-corice, blackberry, and dried herb aromas. The pa ate is quite extraordinary, particu arly the quality of tannins, pithy texture and strident composure, which drive a finish of extreme ength and are all accented by deep m-nerality. The 2021 is a star in the making and easily the best vintage since 2018. 98 points." (AH) Vinous.com------"Incredibly fresh and refined, with deeply brooding notes of dark plums, mocha, graphite, five spice and cured meat. The palate is ultra-refined and pure, with balanced acidity, seamlessly integrated tannins and a creamy texture, showing complex notes of mulberries, cassia bark, pepper, violets and licorice. It is truly exceptional, and is an icon of Australia for a reason. Made from vines that are over 150 years old. Brilliant. Drink or hold. Screw cap. 99 points." James Suckling |

Tasting Notes"The 2021 Shiraz Mount Edelstone is a stunner, offering a tremendous mix of refinement and understated power. It is quite beautiful, a though tightly bound right now, delivering a compact core of spice, bay leaf, and violets, while oak adds well-judged support. There is a bal etic feel to the palate as ethereal flavors of measured ripeness are backed by firm acidity and tight tannins. This re ease is marked by delicious energy and overall I-ghtness of touch—an exceptional vintage for this label. 2034-2050. 97 points." (AH) Vinous.com |

Tasting Notes“Sam O'Keefe was given the fruit from this Stanford vineyard in 2020 after the fire at Lismore but liked it so much that she's made it a permanent feature of her range. Fermented in 20% new oak, it's perfumed and stony, with jasmine aromas, some struck match reduction and a tangy, low alcohol finish. 2022-2027. 94 points." Tim Atkin MW------“The 2021 Chenin Blanc comes from fruit that Samanth O’Keefe brought in after the wildfire. It is whole bunch pressed, oxidatively handled and sees 15% new oak. Yellow plum, egg whites and a touch of candle wax unfurls on the nose, very well defined. The palate is well defined with a fine bead of acidity, an elegant “cool” Chenin with a sleep and focused finish. Wonderful. 2022-2036. 92 points." Neal Martin, Vinous |

Tasting Notes"I'm very happy with 12% alcohol," says Samantha O'Keefe of the small quantities of this late-picked Syrah from Greyton's distinctly cool climate. Featuring 50% whole bunches, it's a taut, refreshing, intensely peppery, sage and oregano-scented style with cranberry and pomegranate fruit, spicy, savoury tannins, deftly handled 32% new wood and a pithy finish. Drink 2024-30. 95 points" Tim Atkin------"The 2021 Syrah Estate Reserve, which comes from the vineyard most damaged by the fire in 2020, is 50% whole bunches and aged in 500 and 700-liter barrels, 25% new. The potent nose of raspberry coulis, blueberry and touches of cough candy, taking its time to settle in the glass and lose it initial exuberance. The palate is medium-bodied with finely chiselled, slightly chalky tannins. Its fresh and vibrant, sapid towards the finish, with a long, Côte-Rôtie-like aftertaste and garrigue notes filtering through with time. This should be afforded a couple of years in bottle and will continue to evolve over the next 15-20 years. Just 12% alcohol, too. Drinking Window 2025-2045. 94 points" Neal Martin, Vinous.com |

Tasting Notes“The 2021 Viognier The Age of Grace comes from Sutherland and bot River, whole bunch pressed with 11 months on the lees using 15% concrete eggs. With pretty white peach and Mirabelle scents on the nose, this takes time to blossom but it never fully lets go. The palace is medium-bodied with a generous dried apricot, mango and spice-box entry, nothing blowsy here with a very focused, almost understated finish. Excellent. 2023-2036. 93+ points." Neal Martin, Vinous------"Sam O'Keefe gets the grapes for this stylish, commercially significant Viognier from Elgin and Bot River, rather than her home base in Greyton. Fermented in 5% new barrels and concrete eggs, it's a suitably graceful, subtle Viognier, with aniseed, pear and apricot skin flavours and tangy supporting acidity. 2022-2027. 92 points."
