Good bottles of mature red burgundy can be hard to find, and equally capricious when you open them, so we are delighted to offer a superb parcel of Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru from the excellent 2015 vintage, direct from Maison Louis Jadot. 

Cellared in perfect conditions, ten years on from the vintage, this is now immediately available, at just £595 per six bottles in bond.  With 95 points from burgundy expert Jasper Morris MW we think this is excellent value for a grand cru from one of the most historic vineyards on the Côte d'Or.

With each new burgundy en primeur release, we discuss the Clos de Vougeot’s nuances - such as the contrasts between its upper and lower slopes - but it’s worth a look at the extraordinary history of this site.  We whizz through Vougeot numerous times as we drive up and down the Côte d'Or, or past the Château du Clos de Vougeot itself on the slower but more picturesque Routes des Grands Crus.  There's rarely time to pause but on one such trip, we spent some time at the château, something that should be a life goal for anyone who loves fine wine.

The frontice of the building may be 16th-Century, but the winery buildings behind it are far older, established in 1098 by monks from Cîteaux Abbey, with the medieval vats and presses (pictured below) still in place.  These Cistercian monks were the first to explore the characteristics of the different vineyards across the Côte d'Or in the 12th- and 13th-Centuries, giving the Clos a claim to be the origin of all terroir-driven wines.
