2019 Château Poujeaux (94 points), £220 per dozen
"...one of the most complex I have encountered from this great estate in recent years...2027-2055. 94 points." Neal Martin, Dec '21
"This Poujeaux has good backbone, almost Pauillac-like in style with a dense and persistent finish that augers for a long-term wine that will repay those with the nous to cellar it a few years. Superb. 93-95 points." Neal Martin, Vinous.com
When we first tasted barrel samples of 2019 Château Poujeaux, we felt it was the finest vintage we had encountered to date, and we bought a large parcel, to cellar ourselves. Nearly seven years later, this brooding, Pauillac-like wine is only just entering its drinking window, so we are delighted to have some to offer to you...a bargain at under £19 per bottle in bond.
We have followed Poujeaux for some years and have always found that it performs well above its price and classification. Jane Anson describes it as "easily one of the best in the appellation, and one that for me equals many 1855-classified growths".
The château is a short distance from the road in between Margaux and St-Julien. The core of the vineyard sits on deep gravel terroir, generally accepted as the best in Moulis-en-Médoc. Under Mathieu Cuvelier, the estate has been modernized and is moving steadily towards biodynamic viticulture, with its profile in Bordeaux rising steadily.
Our parcel of 2019 is limited and we expect to sell out. You can read more about the château below, or simply e-mail us to place your order.
Offered in bond, immediately available. Limited availability.

Tasting Notes"Solid as a rock this year with blueberries and crushed stones. Dried lavender, too. It’s medium-bodied, yet structured and long. Excellent. 93-94 points" jamessuckling.com------"The 2019 Poujeaux has a more introverted bouquet than some of its Moulis associates, though it opens nicely offering black cherries, liquorice, pressed iris petals and touches of crushed stone. The palate is medium-bodied with insistent grip on the entry. This Poujeaux has good backbone, almost Pauillac-like in style with a dense and persistent finish that augers for a long-term wine that will repay those with the nous to cellar it a few years. Superb. 93-95 points" Neal Martin, Vinous.com |
