We are delighted to offer three red wines from Yarra Yering, one of Australia’s most famous estates, and a benchmark producer in Victoria's Yarra Valley. 

Founded in 1969 by Dr Bailey Carrodus, Yarra Yering played a pivotal role in the revival of viticulture in the Yarra Valley. Carrodus planted his first vines at the foot of the Warramate Hills, creating wines with remarkable individuality and longevity, and establishing an estate that has since become one of the great names of Australian wine.

Today, winemaking is in the hands of Sarah Crowe, who has continued to grow the estate’s reputation. She was named James Halliday’s Winemaker of the Year in 2017 and Yarra Yering has subsequently been named Winery of the Year three times by The Real Review.

2022 Dry Red Wine No.1 (£250 per six in bond) is Yarra Yering’s celebrated Cabernet Sauvignon-led Bordeaux blend and one of the estate’s defining wines, one of only 21 Australian wines accorded ‘First Classified’ status in the Langtons Classification, placing it alongside names like Penfolds Grange and Henschke Hill of Grace.

2022 Underhill Shiraz (£225 per six in bond) is a single-vineyard wine, from a block planted in 1973. It is a particularly fine expression of Yarra Valley Shiraz: concentrated and savoury, but with the freshness, perfume and restraint that distinguish the region from Australia’s warmer-climate examples.

2022 Agincourt Cabernet Malbec (£225 per six in bond) is made from Cabernet Sauvignon planted on the Agincourt block in 1995 and Malbec dating from 1990. The combination gives a wine of dark fruit, fragrance and structure, with Malbec adding both perfume and depth to the Cabernet framework.

Across the range, Yarra Yering combines intensity with a finesse that gives them great appeal to lovers of claret.  These are complex, age-worthy wines, but they never rely simply on power or ripeness; there is a freshness, precision and sense of place running through them which makes the estate quite distinctive.

With more than fifty years of history behind it, and arguably producing some of its finest wines today, Yarra Yering deserves its place amongst the great estates of Australia.
