"A really classic Ausone, reminiscent of the great ones of the 1980s...97-98 points."  JamesSuckling.com

Released today for sale en primeur, 2024 Château Ausone scores 97-98 points from JamesSuckling.com and is offered for sale at £1,842 per six bottles, a 30% reduction on last year's opening price.

This is the third vintage to come to the market since the château withdrew from the St-Emilion classification system.  Previously one of just four Premier Grand Cru Classé (A) estates, this small 7-hectare property is one of the oldest in Bordeaux (see our notes about its Roman connections, below).

Jeb Dunnuck describes the '24 as a "classy, perfumed, sensationally elegant Ausone", whilst Lisa Perotti-Brown simply calls it "stunning".

Please let us know if you would like to add this wine to your cellar.

Offered en primeur, landing spring 2027.

Magnums available with £20 ex-VAT bottling surcharge, please enquire re other formats.

Producer Profile

Château Ausone

Château Ausone is named after the 4th Century Gallo-Roman poet Ausonius, who was born in Bordeaux and owned 100 acres of vines around St-Emilion.  The remains of a Roman Villa lie on the estate and it is speculated that this could have been Ausonius'.  The estate has been owned by the Vauthier family since the 1920s.   Michel Rolland is employed as consultant. The wines are famously rich and powerful in style.  The vineyard is just 7.3 hectares in size.  The château sits on the steep side of the limestone plateau.  Beneath it are miles of quarries, dug in the sixteenth century.   A medieval chapel sits next to the château and gives the second wine its name, Chapelle d'Ausone.
