The release of Lafite Rothschild this morning at a discount of about 20% against any other vintage in the market has certainly kick-started the 2024 en-primeur campaign, with good early sales.
Alongside Lafite Rothschild and Carruades de Lafite, today sees the release of the 2024 vintage from its sibling estate, Château Duhart-Milon, offered at £276 per six.
Under the same ownership since 1962, Duhart-Milon was for a time considered as Lafite's second wine. The 76 hectares of vines are almost in one block, on the western side of Lafite's.
These days, almost as much care and attention is lavished on Duhart, befitting its status as a Pauillac fifth growth, all overseen by Lafite's Technical Director, Eric Kohler.

Château Duhart-Milon
Château Duhart-Milon is a Quatrième Cru Classé in Pauillac. Named after the Pauillac village of Milon and a pirate (yes...a pirate!) who served Louis XV, Sir Duhart. Sir Duhart lived in the pretty château depicted on the label, built in the 18th century, but demolished in the 1950s, and like Clerc-Milon, the estate does not have its own château. Owned by Lafite-Rothschild since 1962, it was for a time considered a 'second wine' for Lafite.
The 76 hectare vineyard is planted to 67% Cabernet Sauvignon and 33% Merlot, with a terroir of gravel, sand, limestone and clay soils. The average age of the vines is 30 years old. The vineyard is planted to a vine density of 7,500 vines per hectare. The estate shares its technical director Eric Kohler with Lafite-Rothschild. The second wine of the estate is Moulin de Duhart. A modern winery was constructed in the centre of the town of Pauillac, just a couple of hundred metres from the waterfront, with its yachts moored on the Gironde estuary.
