"...one of the wines of the vintage....95 points."  Jane Anson

Released this morning en primeur, Château Léoville Poyferré is offered at £283 per six bottles in bond, a 13.9% reduction on the 2023.  Jane Anson awards it 95 points, describing it as one of the wines of the vintage.

A theme in the tasting notes from the major critics is that the dense black fruit character was quite closed during the en primeur tastings, so the '24 may well be up-scored when in bottle.  The opening price also makes this one of the best-value modern vintages of this wine, below the current market price for the 2017 and 2021 vintages.

Please let us know if you would like to add this new release to your cellar.

Offered en primeur.  Landing spring 2027.

Magnums available with £20 ex-VAT bottling surcharge per six, please enquire for other formats.

Producer Profile

Château Léoville Poyferré

Château Léoville Poyferré is a Deuxième Grand Cru Classé in St.-Julien.  Originally part of the great Léoville estate, this explains why Poyferré, like Barton, does not have its own château.  Today, Poyferré's vineyards extend to 80 hectares, split into numerous small parcels across the appellation, but centering on the deep gravel soils of the Léoville plateau, ideal for Cabernet Sauvignon.  The vineyards are planted to 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 7% Petit Verdot, and 5% Cabernet Franc, with an average vine age of 38 years.

The estate has been owned by the Cuvelier family since the 1920s.  Didier Cuvelier retired in 2017 and his niece, Sara Lecomte Cuvelier has taken over as Director, with Isabelle Davin as oenologist.
