Released for sale en primeur this morning, 'R de Rieussec' has become a firm favourite with many of our customers: a dry white bordeaux, under the same ownership as Lafite-Rothschild, at a price comparable with the best-value white burgundy, from villages like Auxey or Santenay

2025 R de Rieussec was made with grapes from the Rieussec vineyards, bordering those of Château d'Yquem, on the left bank of the Garonne River.  The terroir at Rieussec is notable for having areas of complex limestone soils, ideal for producing dry wines as well as sweet Sauternes

The 2025 vintage began with a mild winter, followed by a moderate spring, and a long, dry, hot summer, leading to some vines experiencing water stress.  These conditions limited yields, resulting in even ripening and increased flavour concentration.  The end of the summer saw pronounced diurnal temperature variations, important for the development of aroma compounds, producing a wine with freshness and tension.

The dry white wines from many of the Cru Classé châteaux are under-appreciated, equalling white burgundies in weight and texture, and with the ability to develop with age, offering a spectrum of flavours: from fresh, seafood-friendly wines in their youth, to rich, waxy orchard fruits and savoury-honeyed notes after a decade or more.

We will be tasting 2025 R de Rieussec in Bordeaux later this month, but we are confident in offering it on release, the quality is reliably so high each year.

The price of just £230 per dozen in bond makes this a fine wine you can enjoy every day.

Offered en primeur, landing spring 2027.

Magnums available with a bottling surcharge, TBC.  Please enquire for other formats.

Tasting NotesNo tasting notes for the 2025 are available as yet, but Jane Anson wrote this about the 2024 vintage: "This is succulent and precise, definitely one to look out, plenty of energy and lift through the palate, elderflower, citrus, white pepper, sage, lime zest, apricot, nectarine, saffron, steel and slate. Great stuff from Rieussec in this vintage. 3.15ph. 94 points." - Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux, Apr '25
