Early reports suggest the 2025 vintage will be a good one in Burgundy, with the harvest underway as we write, so we are delighted to offer one of its very first wines: 2025 Beaujolais Nouveau Villages from Domaine André Colonge et Fils, at £72 per six bottles duty paid, for collection from Aldeburgh on Nouveau Day in November, or delivery in the days following.
Specialising in en primeur as we do, we think there is something very beautiful about tasting the first wine of each new vintage, whose top wines may be talked about and enjoyed for many decades to come.
We have enjoyed many delicious Nouveau wines over the years, but the key is to buy from good domaines. Domaine André Colonge et Fils is a 30-hectare estate run by two brothers, Landry and Samuel, and their father, Serge. Seven of their hectares are in Fleurie and 18 are in Beaujolais and Beaujolais Villages. The Gamay vines for the 'Villages' are around 40 years old, planted on granitic, sandy soils similar to the terroir of Fleurie.
This Colonge's Village wine is an excellent example of how enjoyable proper Nouveau wines can be, a world away from the mass-produced variety, and it will drink well over the next 12 months, pairing beautifully with foods including grilled salmon and feathered game.
