The quality of the Mercurey wines of Domaine Jeannin-Naltet has grown year-on-year since the amiable Benoît Eschard took over from his uncle over a decade ago.  2024 saw another landmark in this transformation, with the new vintage being made in a gleaming new winery.  The wines are excellent, and we only felt sorry that it was such a tiny vintage, particularly so in Mercurey.  We are delighted to offer the 2024 vintage for sale en primeur.

Talking to Benoît really underlined the outstanding value on offer here. The quality of his wines now rivals that of many domaines on the Côte d’Or, yet the Mercurey appellation places a natural ceiling on pricing. Recent harvests — 2021, 2024 and 2025 — were all around half a normal crop, but a producer as exacting as Benoît refuses to compromise, maintaining strict selection even in difficult years. The result is painfully low stocks in his cellar — unfortunate for him, but an opportunity for our customers to secure exceptional quality at compelling prices.

We began the tasting with the 2024 Bourgogne Aligoté, an excellent place to start.  The additional concentration gained from the low yields we have mentioned elsewhere in talking about this vintage was evident here.  If you have ever wanted to 'get into' Aligoté, this is the year to do it.  Along with the usual fresh acidity, it had some lovely ripe citrus flavours and a lemon-pith texture on the palate.   Benoît's decision a few years back to replant some areas with Chardonnay has also paid off, as his 2024 Mercurey Village Blanc was exceptional this year, with delicious peach and other stone fruits on the nose and palate.  For under £30 per bottle with all taxes, this is a great example of very clever, fine white burgundy winemaking.  Unfortunately, both whites are only available in minute quantities in the 2024 vintage, so do order promptly.

Looking back at our tasting notes for the reds, they all have 'four ticks' beside them...our informal shorthand for 'notable and outstanding'.  Very little Bourgogne Rouge was made this year, but the '24 has lovely pure strawberry and raspberry fruit, fresh acidity and fine tannins.  The 2024 Mercurey Village Rouge had an intense, delightful nose of violets and grilled meats, with dense cherry and raspberry fruits on the palate.

The three premiers crus are the specialism of Jeannin-Naltet, accounting for over 60% of their vineyards.  Always a great pleasure to taste, this was especially the case this year, with each wine expressing its terroir in great detail.  We can wholeheartedly recommend adding them to your cellar.

Offered En Primeur, due to land in the UK in autumn 2026.
