"A hidden gem...a superstar effort...Don’t miss a chance to grab a bottle if you can. 94 points" Jebdunnuck.com on 2017 Roc de Cambes
"...an absolutely stunning wine from François and Nina Mitjavile...94 points" - Neal Martin on 2017 Roc de Cambes
We are delighted to have secured a new ex-domaine parcel of two mature wines from Château Roc de Cambes, the ultimate 'below the radar' estate in the Côtes de Bourg. Owned by winemaking legend François Mitjavile of Château Le Tertre Rôteboeuf in St-Emilion, these 2017s are completely delicious, and a bargain for canny buyers.
François and his daughter Nina (winemaker at Roc de Cambes) have a habit of surprising everyone by making some of their most remarkable wines in unexpected years. Neal Martin described 2017 Roc de Cambes as "positively stellar" after tasting it in 2024, scoring it 94 points. At a previous tasting, he described it as "very Left Bank in style".
Spring frosts and a cool, dry summer led to a late harvest, especially for Merlot. Judging the right moment to pick is one of François' super-powers, and the 2017 has lots of ripe, developed aromas and flavours. For just £270 per six in bond, the structure and complexity of this vintage is superb and would throw shade on many great names from St-Emilion at three or four times the price.
The 2017 Domaine de Cambes offers an even more affordable way to experience the Mitjavile magic, at just £195 per six. This is made from a 6-hectare plot of vines with its own terroir, and entitled only to the Bordeaux appellation. Nevertheless, it receives similar scores to Roc de Cambes, so why not add a case of this to your order!
This is Bordeaux at its most Burgundian, particularly after almost a decade in the bottle.
We have limited quantities of both wines, so please let us know as soon as possible if you would like to order.
Offered in bond, available for delivery in March.
