Tasting Notes"The 2016 Pontet-Canet is absolutely breathtaking. Powerful, ample and racy in the glass, the 2016 is one of the most exquisitely well-balanced young Pontet-Canets I can remember tasting. Savory, high-toned aromatics and brisk mineral notes lend energy and delineation as this vivid wonderfully alive wine opens up in the glass. The flavors are dark and incisive, but it is the wine's total sense of harmony that is most compelling. All of the elements are simply in the right place. The 2016 is tremendous. It's as simple as that. As is often the case, Pontet-Canet is one of the most singular wines in Bordeaux. Alfred Tesseron could have chosen to play things safe when he took over the management of the estate in the mid-1990s. Instead, he chose a very different path. No proprietor in Bordeaux has taken more risks over the last two decades than Alfred Tesseron. A commitment to biodynamic farming, sustainability across the entire estate more broadly, and the adoption of new concepts for Bordeaux, such as aging a portion of the wine in terra cotta, set Pontet-Canet apart from other properties in Pauillac and the Left Bank. Not surprisingly, the wine is also starkly different from the wines of neighboring estates. 99 points" Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com |

Tasting Notes“The 2016 Sociando Mallet has an attractive bouquet Of cranberry, wild strawberry, cedar and light loamy aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, though it is well balanced with a fresh, quite mineral-driven finish that has grace and charm. This is a splendid Sociando-MaIIet that I suspect will meliorate with cellaring. Tasted blind at the Southwold tasting. 2022-2040. 92 points.” Neal Martin, Jan 2020------"Dark-berry and currant aromas with hints of spice. Medium body, firm and chewy tannins and a fresh and clean finish. Shows focus and seriousness for the appellation, as is usual from this producer. Better after 2022. 94 points." JamesSuckling.com, Feb '19------"Takes its time to open, this is structured and hugely impressive, back to the signature concentrated graphite, cassis, luxurious texture and plenty of graphite and crayon Left Bank kick. This one needs to be carafed if drinking any time soon. Tasting Notes“This estate in Saint-Christoly-Médoc has long produced great value, quintessentially Médoc-styled wines, and the 2016 La Tour St Bonnet has turned out especially well. Offering up aromas of sweet blackcurrant fruit intermingled with notions of loamy soil, tobacco leaf and vanilla pod, it's medium to full-bodied, with powdery tannins and a nicely concentrated core of fruit. Robert Parker once described this estate as producing a miniature Grand-Puy-Lacoste, and that observation continues to resonate with me. While the 2016 drinks well today, a bit more time in the cellar will only pay dividends. 2020-2036. 90+ points. ” RobertParker.com (WK), Dec '23 |

Tasting Notes"The 2016 Les Trois Moulins has a traditional cedar and pencil box scented bouquet, a little austere in the context of the vintage but well defined. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, well-judged acidity, classic in style with graphite and cedar towards the finely sculpted finish. It is not going to win any "Wine of the Year" awards, but you will polish off a bottle at the dinner table. Tasted at the Cru Bourgeois tasting in London. 90 points." Neal Martin, Vinous, Sep '18------"This offers some herbal notes with an array of red fruit and bell peppers. The palate has quite a taut build of fine tannins and delivers a sturdy, fine but firm texture at the finish. A blend of 45 per cent merlot, 40 per cent cabernet sauvignon and 15 per cent cabernet franc. Try from 2022. 92 points" jamessuckling.com |
