Our Rhône list focuses on rare bottles of older vintages from collectible domaines, including Jaboulet and Chapoutier's Selection Parcellaire (which we offer on release each year). In recent years we have grown our offering to include wines from small domaines in both the Northern and Southern Rhône, offering a wonderful diversity of terroir character and superb value.

Tasting Notes"Like the base cuvée, yet even richer, more powerful, and decadent, the 2015 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Quet is a blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Mourvèdre that was raised in very old barrels and oak tanks. Full-bodied, ripe, sexy and about as hedonistic as it gets in 2015, this beauty has tons of sweet tannin, a huge mid-palate, and big finish. It's an incredible wine that's guaranteed to raise your heart rate (it did for me anyway). 99 points" Jebdunnuck.com |

Tasting Notes"The flagship wine, the 2015 Chateauneuf du Pape...features delicate floral scents and ample cherry and licorice aromas. Somehow, it manages to be full-bodied and almost creamy in texture but without much weight, then it ends powerfully, with a flourish of rich Mexican chocolate on the long, silky finish. It should drink well for up to 20 years. 2017-2035. 94 points." (JC) The Wine Advocate, Oct 2017------"A wine with playful, attractive character. An array of red, blue and purple fruits. Gently spicy, chalky and fragrant, it has a very supple, fleshy and layered palate with a web of fine, smooth and supple tannins. Extremely elegant and composed. A long draw on the finish. Great depth and drive. This will live super long. Try after 2020. 96 points." (JS) Jamessuckling.com, Jan 2018 |

Tasting Notes"...Gorgeously spicy! Iridescent with spices. Massive, magnificent tannins that, for now, loom up over the wine like a roaring lion, but the palate has so much depth and breadth, so much triumphant, confident beauty, that I have no doubt all this needs is time for the elements to segue into each other. Dried, roses, black figs, pomegranate molasses, chocolate mint, sumac, baharat. This has complexity and challenge and powerful grace; tastes like Tschaïkowsky cross Nureyev. 2024-2034. 17.5 points." Tasting Notes"...a ripe, sexy wine I'd be happy to drink. Black raspberries, pepper, new leather, camphor, and garrigue notes all emerge from this medium to full-bodied, ultra-fine, seamless 2018 that has plenty of fruit and a great finish. Enjoy bottles over the coming 4-6 years. 92 points." Jebdunnock.com------"Unfortunately, yields are down 50%, but the 2018 Côtes Du Rhône Villages Plan De Dieu will certainly be an outstanding wine. Based on 70% Grenache and 30% Mourvèdre from the Plan De Dieu appellation, which is located on the pebbly soils spanning the valley floor between Cairanne and Vacqueyras, it was completely destemmed and is still aging mostly in neutral barrels, with 30% being new. Terrific Grenache-driven notes of strawberries, black raspberries, garrigue, and crushed flowers all emerge from this more medium to full-bodied, seamless, incredibly elegant 2018. The vintage’s plushness (yet freshness) is front and center, it has fine tannins, and it’s going to put a smile on your face right out of the gate. 91-93 points." Jebdunnock.com |

Tasting Notes"...Silky plums, mocha, kohl-smudge sleepy-late-night sweetness, seductively dark fruit. Mulberries crushed on wet rocks. Plum skins drenched in maple-syrup-sweet coffee. Thyme, pressed against the hot blue-velvet of late-summer night. It's a thrum of off-beat soft-snare rhythm bleeding into the cashmere caress of irises on a warm early-summer night. Breathe in this sweet-minor-key-of-a-folksong wine as deeply, as greedily, as if it were the last summer night on earth. 2022-2030. 17.5 points." Jancisrobinson.com (TC), Nov '22 |

Tasting Notes“Assembled from 14 different plots (each vinified and aged separately for the first year), the 2019 Gigondas boasts lovely aromas of garrigue, spice, orange zest, liquorice, black cherries and raspberries....full-bodied, rich and velvety, with a long, softly dusty finish. It lacks the easy approachability of the 2018 but is more concentrated and should age particularly well. 93-95 points.” Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate, Mar 2021------“A full-bodied, harmonious blend, not quite as aggressively concentrated as his single-vineyard wines this year. Very tannic still, and well balanced despite its enormous size. Long finish, saturated with thick, fine tannins. The oak is quite prominent for now, but there's enough fruit to match it. Will be good when it's ready....95 points.” Matt Walls, Decanter.com, 7th December 2020 |

Tasting NotesLeaps out of the glass with vibrant, crushed rock mineral aromas and fresh pear fruit. The acidity on the palate is not high but the overall impression is of freshness, balanced by a slightly oily texture which lends weight. RKL------"A beautifully fresh and balanced Saint-Péray, rich and generous but with a good freshening acid bite. There's a pleasing support of grilled nut oak in the background bringing a bit of complexity and length, it works well. A very classic, unexaggerated and drinkable depiction of the terroir. Drinking Window 2020 - 2022. 92 points." Matt Walls, Decanter------"70% Roussanne, 30% Marsanne. Winemaker Laure Colombo (daughter of Jean-Luc). Fermented in 228- and 400-litre oak. Young vines. After a run of white burgundies, this smells so exotic and rich: apricot, orange, even though it is not a sweet wine. Smells as if there was some botrytis but apparently not – just very ripe. Powerful, intense exotic and stone fruits, full-bodied and complete even though the acidity is moderate. A lovely wine. Much richer than a stereotypical St-Péray. Lots of spice on the finish. GV. 14% Drink 2021-2028. 17 points" jancisrobinson.com (JH) |

Tasting Notes"I loved the 2020 Calendal, an incredibly complex, medium to full-bodied, seamless 2020 that does everything right. Red and blue fruits, ground pepper, violets, and incense are just some of its nuances, and it has terrific tannin and a pure, balanced, incredibly satisfying style. The blend is 70% Grenache and 30% Mourvèdre, from a single vineyard planted in 1964 and 1968, that saw 20% new French oak. It's perfect for enjoying any time over the coming 7-8 years, and I suspect it will keep even longer. 2023-2032. 93 points." Jeb Dunnuck, Mar '23 |

Tasting Notes"This 2.5ha Syrah vineyard is planted on poor, granitic soil in the heart of Saint-Joseph appellation. The harshness of the soil makes vines work extra hard, delivering long lived, structured wines." Chapoutier------"Touch of fresh peat and seaweed on the nose at this early stage. Lovely weight and freshness on the palate, very clear and detailed. Tannins are measured, the wine has a crispness and even a touch of black pepper. Earthy, spicy style, not overly ripe or concentrated - you see the structure with clarity. Will drink well young, and offer a lot of pleasure, showing terroir and complexity without great concentration or length. Great balance and freshness however. Drinking Window 2023 - 2030. 94 points." Tasting Notes"The 2020 Crozes Hermitage Domaine de Thalabert boasts effusive aromas of cracked pepper, black olives, cherries and blueberries. The medium to full-bodied palate delivers some soft dusty tannins and decent length, but it's surprisingly lacking in concentration. 89-91 points" Joe Czerwinski, RobertParker.com------“Yet another beautiful 2020, Thalabert is deep, dark and brooding in this vintage, and it has an almost Italianate liquorice and black-fruited theme underpinning its Syrah characters. This makes it an indulgent treat, and the palate is more velvety and forward than any young Thalabert I have tasted. In addition, it has the stuffing to age well, too. What more could you ask for? (Drink 2023 – 2033)“ 18+ points" Matthew Jukes------"Pure and lifted with the aroma of fresh, berry fruit. Less dense than imagined but pure, fresh and juicy with extremely fine-grained tannins. Refined and almost approachable but history says it will age. 16.5+ points" jancisrobinson.com (JL) |

Tasting NotesVery pure notes of black cherry, blackcurrant and bramble fruits on the nose, with peppercorns and herbs on the nose and an impression of freshness, more elegant than in 2019. Possesses a balance which is almost burgundy-like, excellent. RKL |

Tasting Notes"Subdued but pure and profound. Tightly wound on the palate, the tannins powerful but refined, the fruit deep but underplayed. A saline edge that runs from start to finish adding length at the end. Needs to unfurl and expand but clearly has potential. 17.5 points" jancisrobinson.com (JH)------"After the past several vintages, the 2020 Hermitage La Chapelle will need to add significant richness and concentration if it is to compete at that level. That said, it is still an excellent wine, with classic aromas of crushed stone, cassis, espresso and black olives. It's full-bodied, fine and silky, giving an impression of great elegance on the lingering finish. 93-95 points" Joe Czerwinski, RobertParker.com------“While there are faint roasted coffee bean notes here, which hint at the warm summer, and exotic rose and musk characters that only ever emerge in concentrated vintages, this is a masterclass in restraint and self-awareness. While this 2020 perhaps lacks the overall gravitas and high-rise tannins of the majestic 2019 vintage, this is a very seductive La Chapelle and one that will appeal to lovers of textural, velvety Syrahs. I am certain that everyone who drinks this wine will fall for its charms. (Drink 2025 – 2040)” 19+ points" Matthew Jukes |

Tasting NotesFrom viognier vines near Chavanay, on muscovite-rich granite. The wine spends 9 months in barriques, on the lees, with no racking and regular stirring. A delightful, text-book expression of viognier with lots of freshness and purity of expression to the fruit, encompassing peach, quince, apricot, quince and citrus. Slightly honeyed too, but the overall impression is savoury and fresh. Would be wonderful paired with sashimi! RKL |

Tasting NotesFrom 1.5 ha of south-facing terraced vines on Coteau de Semons, in Tupin-Semons commune. 'Bassenon' is named after the stream at the foot of the hill. Granite and gneiss soils, planted to 90% syrah, 10% viognier. The grapes are picked by hand, then sorted, crushed and partially destemmed in the cellar. Open, temperature-controlled vatting for about 3 weeks, with regular cap-punching and pumping-over. Malolactic-fermented in barriques with native yeasts, before maturation for 18 months in barriques. A step-up in finesse from the St.-Joseph's, but still with wonderfully ripe and intense fruit concentration. An elegant, floral note of violets on the nose, presumably from the Viognier, which also adds a peach character to the palate, lifting the red and black fruits enormously. Very refined tannins, masses of energy. Could be enjoyed on landing and for over the next decade. A very accessible, modern and technically correct interpretation of Côte-Rôtie which should bring this appellation lots of new followers. RKL |

Tasting NotesFrom Marsanne and Rousanne vines on the sandy, granitic hillsides in the commune of Chavanay. The grapes are hand-picked; then sorted and pressed in the cellar. Alcoholic and malolactic fermented in barriques with native yeasts, followed by 9 months in barriques, on the lees, with no racking and regular stirring. Luscious fruit also layered and complex; stone fruits and acacia honey notes on the nose. Fleshy and fruity on the palate, with some minerality adding freshness. RKL |

Tasting NotesBiousse is a single vineyard in the south of Saint-Péray, planted with Marsanne, on red clay and granitic scree. The wine is fermented partly in barriques and partly in larger casks, before 9 months' ageing in the same formats. Apple citrus fruits with some floral notes, honeysuckle, and a fresh minerality on the palate, which is long and quite intense. Saint-Péray whites definitely should be drunk more! RKL |
