2020 Château Cambon La Pelouse En Primeur

2020 Château Cambon La Pelouse was released last week, but we have been waiting expectantly to taste it before offering it for sale.  You may recall that we were so impressed by the 2016 that we offered a parcel of it ex-cellars last year.  We are pleased to say that the 2020 seems to be another great value offering from this estate, with the concentration and structure you might expect from the Grands Crus Classés.

Less well-known in the UK in recent years, Cambon has a long history and commanded high prices in England in the 18th century.  New investment over the last twenty years has restored the vineyards and seen an impressive new winery built.  The improvement in quality was marked by the estate being designated 'Exceptionnel' in the latest Cru Bourgeois classification.

Jane Anson scored the 2016 vintage 92 points and the 2019 was rated 90-92 points by The Wine Advocate.  Scores for the 2020 are yet to be released.  With vineyards bordering Margaux, Cambon also uses a high concentration of Merlot for a right bank wine (50% in 2020)...and this is definitely a vintage in which Merlot has shone.

Landing spring 2023.

Château Cambon La Pelouse

Producer Profile

Château Cambon La Pelouse

Château Cambon La Pelouse is a Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel in the Haut-Médoc.

Cambon has been shipping wine to England since the late 17th century and in the 18th century, it commanded a price of £400 per cask, an extraordinarily high price at the time. Located just on the edge of Margaux, Giscours, La Lagune and Château du Tertre among its close neighbours.

New investment in the 60-hectare vineyard and winery by Jean-Pierre Marie has started to bring out more refinement and floral elegance in recent vintages.  In 2019 he sold Cambon to Treasury Wine Estates, owners of Penfolds and various other famous wine brands.
