2020 Château Haut-Brisson En Primeur

Released this afternoon alongside sibling-estates Enclos Tourmaline and Château Tour Saint-Christophe, Château Haut-Brisson is one of our early 'picks' of the vintage. This Grand Cru St.-Émilion benefits from the same investment and passionate focus on quality as Peter Kwok's other estates, but at just £228 per dozen in bond, it is superb value.

We loved the cask sample we tasted, which had the most intense black forest fruits, crushed rock on the nose and palate and vibrant acidity...just bursting with energy and life.  Suckling awards it 94-95 points, a great score at this price level.

Producer Profile

Château Haut-Brisson

Château Haut-Brisson is a Grand Cru in St.-Émilion.  Owned since 1997 by financier and wine estate owner Peter Kwok, the estate was recently sold to internet entrepreneur Stéphane Schinazi, however the winemaking is still managed by Kwok's team.

The vines are on the limestone plateau of Saint-Etienne-de-Lisse and the gravelly hilltops of Saint-Sulpice de Faleyrens and spread over 20 hectares. The terroir of Château Haut Brisson is clay-limestone and 'Graves': Brown clay-loam soil on ocher and whitish clay with limestone subsoil.  The 17.94 hectare of vineyards are planted to 65% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, averaging 30 years of age.
