2020 Château Poujeaux En Primeur (1)
Released en primeur today at £217 per dozen in bond, 2020 Château Poujeaux En Primeur divides the critics very slightly, with Jane Anson scoring it 92 points, despite calling it one of the best wines of Moulis from the vintage; whereas James Suckling declares it is "Potentially one of the best in a long time. (94-95 points)". We are with Suckling on this one, we found it dark-fruited and completely classic, a savoury palate (amongst lots of wines with a juicy, succulent fruit character) which denotes seriousness. We can see this ageing beautifully in the medium term.

Château Poujeaux, Moulis-en-Médoc
Château Poujeaux is an AOC estate in the commune of Moulis-en-Médoc. In 2003 it was classified as a Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel but the property has since opted out of the classification.
For many years owned by the Theil family, it was bought in 2008 by the Philippe Cuvelier, owner of Clos Fourtet in St Emilion. Mathieu Cuvelier is in charge here and has modernized the estate, which is also moving towards organic and biodynamic production. Stéphane Derenoncourt is the consultant oenologist.
63 hectares of the 70-hectare estate are planted in a single block to 50 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 40 % Merlot, 5 % Cabernet Franc and 5 % Petit Verdot, on a rise of Gunzian gravel. Moulis-en-Médoc sits in between Margaux and St-Julien, as you head north from Bordeaux.
