Burgundy 2022 En Primeur: Château Thivin

"...one of the greatest vignerons in France...(their) sensational reds...all manage to capture the essence of their village, the history of the region and the drama and splendour of top-flight Cru Beaujolais."  - Matthew Jukes, Money Week, Sep 2020

“...this historic estate continues to rank among the reference points for classical, age-worthy cru Beaujolais....A staple of France's best restaurants—and this writer's table—any readers who are not acquainted with these wines are warmly advised to seek them out.” William Kelley, The Wine Advocate, August 2022

The last of our Burgundy 2022 en primeur offers comes from Château Thivin, a much-loved favourite, with vines on the best slopes of the extinct volcano of the Mont de Brouilly.  This is an ancient estate, with the oldest part of the cellars dated 1383.  Owned since the late 1800s by the Geoffray family, the domaine has 8.3 hectares of vines in seven parcels (the 'Sept Vignes') on a variety of volcanic soils.

This diversity of soils and terroirs gives the wines their potential for complexity and longevity.  Thivin's Sept Vignes is delicious when young, but Neal Martin has published tasting notes for vintages that show well with twenty to thirty years of bottle age.  There are high expectations for the 2022 vintage; the growing season in Beaujolais was excellent, a 'solar' year with 48% more sunshine hours in July alone, compared to a normal year.

We have just received details of our allocation of the 2022.  This is such a popular offer each year, we have decided to offer it in advance of the critics releasing their scores and tasting the new vintage ourselves.  We expect to sell out quickly, so do let us know as soon as possible if you would like to order.

Offered en primeur, expected by autumn 2024.
