Tasting Notes"The 2023 Chambolle-Musigny Les Borniques ler Cru was raised in one- and two-year-old barrels. A mixture of red and black fruit on the nose, it is a little earthier than Les Cras without the same degree of precision. The palate is fresh, crisp and medium-bodied with fine tannins. It's not the most complex Chambolle, yet there is plenty of energy here. Give this two or three years once bottled. 91-93 points" Neal Martin, Vinous.com------"A perfumed and spicy nose freely reveals its combination of various dark berries, violet and vaguely exotic tea hints. The supple and rich medium weight plus flavors flash excellent power and minerality while delivering positively huge length on the firm, serious and youthfully austere finale. Tasting Notes"Liqueur-like aromas include those of black cherry, poached plum and a spicy top note. The sleek, seductive and supple flavors are not especially dense while exuding a subtle minerality that adds a sense of lift to the balanced, dusty and impressively long finale that is presently youthfully austere. This is understated and really quite good. 90-92 points" Allen Meadows' Burghound------"The 2023 Chambolle-Musigny Les Charmes 1er Cru has a lively, vibrant, well-defined bouquet with black cherry, raspberry and light herbaceous scents. It will need time in bottle to really gel. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly lactic entry, with hints of dark chocolate infusing the red fruit. Tasting Notes"A perfumed and attractively elegant nose is comprised by aromas of black raspberry, cherry, soft wood and wet stone. Here too the palate impression of the medium-bodied flavors is supple, seductive and succulent while flashing more evident minerality on the lingering if mildly sweet finish that isn't really intrusive but I can't say that it appeals to me. To be fair, it's quite possible that the sweetness will dissipate in time as the oak treatment is more completely integrated. 89-92 points" Allen Meadows' Burghound------"The 2023 Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras ler Cru, matured with 30% new oak, has a little more precision and a touch more mineral drive within the red fruit than Les Charmes. Tasting Notes"A ripe and quite fresh array combines notes of black cherry with those of spice and an admirably discreet dollop of wood. The succulent and caressing middle weight flavors possess solid volume before concluding in a robust, powerful and slightly warm finish. This is not really in the mode of a lace and grace Chambolle but does offer fine depth and persistence in an age-worthy package. Worth considering. 89-91 points" Allen Meadows' Burghound------"The 2023 Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes, from vines between 60 and 70 years old, has a beautifully defined bouquet with cranberry and wild strawberry fruit scents, sous-bois and neatly integrated 25% new oak. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, sweet black cherries and crushed strawberry scents and a dab of candied orange peel toward the finish. Tasting NotesLes Naugues (pronounce, rather disconcertingly, with a hard 'g') is a 1 ha south-facing site, with 46-year-old vines, on limestone-marl. The aspect means that the grapes here ripen early. Aged 100% in oak barrels, of which 30% are new. "...Smells and looks a little deeper than the Clos l’Evêque. Darker-fruited and spicier. Not as inviting initially but has impressive length and very fine, definite tannins. 2027-2033. GV. 16.5 points." JR (JH) |

Tasting NotesThe yield this year was 34 hl, versus 45 hl in a normal year, which itself is very low for Bourgogne Pinot Noir, often pushed to yield of 55 hl/ha +. Aged in foudre and barrels for 18 months, which is the same ageing regime as the village wines from most domaines, with 10% new oak this year. Tremendous depth and power on the palate, very forward, dark, spicy cherry fruit. RKL |
